Slots are generally referred to as the number of players the coach can get through admissions who probably a wouldn’t without baseball. A 3.5 and a 1300 SAT (Math & English) won’t get an ordinary applicant into Harvard. The coach can get a baseball recruit in using one of his slots.

At a D3 where you’re not offered money, the best hint at being a top recruit is being asked to apply ED and give the admissions app to the coach to walk it through.

Slots are the total number of players a coach can recruit and support through admissions.   The number of slots are negotiated with admissions, and will vary from year to year.  When a coach is interested in recruiting a player he will get a pre-read from admissions on the player before he invests much time.  Receiving coach support through admissions does not guarantee admission, nor guarantee a roster spot.

Edit - One NESCAC had 8 slots for 2018's, which would be simliar to some of the Ivy's
