Just went back and looked at a "rotational" hitting (big name)DVD I've had for a while.....The thing that jumps out at me is that he does not have his student doing any pre- swing hip loading. My boys are being taught to load the hips. My guy thinks it's "vital". But my experience with instructors is that most think that every aspect of what they are teaching is "vital". ??? What do you all think??

How are you tonight sir? Hope all is well.

This is a topic worthy of the boards attention and I'm glad you brought it up for discussion.

Hip loading is vital IMHO because this aspect of the rotational swing directly correlates to using the strongest muscles of the power base to hit with and against. This is the source of REAL POWER so often missed in hitting instruction and should be VITAL. Looking at these types of hitting instruction based on the rotational swing will get the player/hitter investigating and exploring. Highly recommend for the serious PLAYER. Can't go wrong if you seek as many additional hitting supplements that can open the mind and extend horizons.

Remember the very first video I ordered about 15 years ago. The Exceptional Player/Perfect Swing. It was a video of a motion analysis scientist so to speak with his son in the video as hitting model for demonstration. Passed that video around to every person I coached, scouted and instructed for years until I found others like Paul Ny..., etc. Then studied these just the same. So many different methods taught but they all have the basic same end-all conclusion: LOWERBODY IS KEY AND MUST LEAD. This includes hip loading as demonstrated by almost every respected hitting professional on the face of this Earth.

Good stuff troy99 along with many other topics you have brought up here since my return last month. Shep is listening and absorbing all, just don't always respond or reply but mostly agree with your knowledge Smile

Good day Sir, hi

To me that clip of Robinson hitting is a bad swing! Hip's fly out early, reaching way out to hit the ball, came around the ball on contact, and looks like he hit a weak foul ball down the third base line. Top arm should be in a bent positon on contact like a punch, and both arm's are just too far out on contact which takes the power away from the swing.
