Had a situation in a game last night. Play at home. Outfielder threw a lazer to the catcher and hit his mask that was laying on the ground. Ball popped up and the catcher caught it. The runner was safe. No big deal.
Later in the game me and the umpire were talking and the umpire thought that he should of call a dead ball advance the runner on the play but he was not sure because he has never saw a ball hit the catcher mask before. We ended up friendly debating it all game in between innings and looked it up at the end of the game. We could not find anything on it in the rule book so I am asking you guys. What is the right call.
