kt333,

Here is another video of correct hand path. This is from a very good high school player. Watch the swing that occurs at 1 min. and 43 sec. Watch how his hands stay close to his body, and he doesn't overrotate with his shoulders. He finishes with the chest over the plate, not facing the second baseman. This is a great example. I suggest watching this clip multiple times. Some of the other swings in the video, he gets a little pull happy, and flys open. That is to be expected since he is in a hr derby. Just PM me and we can continue this conversation. The page is below.

Correct hand path
When you finish hitting the baseball (swing complete), your chest is open(facing the pitcher/sometimes ss). When he (Harper) finishes his swing at 1 min. 43 sec. his chest is facing half-way between the mound and the pitcher. This shows that he has not pulled off the baseball, by swinging with his shoulders. He had the proper hand-path, and allowed his hole body to swing the bat.

RJM,

Haha, I will make sure to do that next time. I am hoping that your post implies that my hat was the only flaw in the video and not my swing?

lol Thanks

KT
I'm a coach. The first thing I saw was the hat on backwards. I didn't proceed any further.

RJM- Then you would have cut Ken Griffey Jr. Not very smart! Look, I'm as old school as you- trust me. Instead of cutting him, tell him why it's important to make a good impression and make him fix it.

Bryce has really made good changes to his swing. He used to really slide and get over the front knee. He now does a good job stiffening that front leg and rotating around that hip. You are correct- excellent circular hand path. FYI- He's a wonderful kid on and off the field.

Well Put. I posted this discussion looking for help not criticism. No offense taken.
Overall you have a good looking swing man

I would widen out just a bit, because it allows you to use your legs a bit more. Thats the only adjustment I would make at this point.

Try not to get to mechanical,to technical, etc with the swing. I hate it when people try to break it down to every little bit of the swing, such as arm angle, where the shoulder starts finishes, and such. Each player is different and so each player has a different swing. Swing hard, use your legs, and keep your hands inside the ball.Best advice I was ever given.
