Stored energy. Think of it as a punch. If you start a straight punch, the more you have your arm bent to start, the harder punch you will deliver (provided each would be at full force). Another part is sweetspot starting position. Take the puch analogy again, which punch lands quicker, a jab or a hook? The jab of course. The farther the speetspot has to move from the time you say go in your head (meaning, you decide to swing), the slower your swing will be and the less consistency you will have if the ball is moving on two planes. You will have much less adjustability.

One other thing, when you start the barrel too soon, you will waste much of the energy in the direction of 1st base instead of to the ball.

Hey Guys,

Its been quite a while now. Ive been working on all the things that you all have said. Heres the latest video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvxGAKmXVYY

It seems to me that this almost looks worse than the last one.

powertoallfields: I tried to focus on the shaft to shoulder position but im not sure if this is even close to it.

Tell me if you think this is better than the last video. Youve all been a great help. Hopefully this looks a lot better that the first video we did. Keep the advice coming.

Nope! But, don't give up. Here is a drill that Mike Epstein uses and I have used in the past. Pur the bat on your right deltoid muscle at about the top of the tape. Now, from this position (keep everything else the same as before) swing the bat, but wait as long as possible to swing. Try this for the rest of the week and see how it feels and get back to me on Friday.

Can you tell me this?

Have we progressed anywhere from when we started?

Yes! I would still like to see your feet further apart and I would like to see video from directly next to the plate. As I stated in my very first response to you, it is very difficult to fix multiple problems at once on the internet. For someone that is working hard to fix their swing like you are, if it were one on one, most of your problems would have been fixed by now. All I can tell you is to keep working and videoing.

Did you get my PM?

Your swing is getting better with all the insightful recommendations on this thread! It just takes a good attitude and alot of practice to get there.
That said, look at pic #5 from GED10 and note the position of the knob in relation to the back elbow of the batter at the beginning of the launch. It is in front of the elbow and stays there through the rest of the swing.
Your elbow leads your swing causing you to drag the bat for a short time before you get into the swingplane. This will make it tougher to hit faster pitching.
Maybe one of the members here has a drill to help you get the knob/shoulder through first and eliminate your bat drag. Keep workin' at it!
Thanks BBK I will. Everyone else. Practices for HS baseball have now started for me so I will be getting hitting practice. I will continue to work on the things that you have said. It just might be tough to get a video on here for a while. Or at least until the weather warms up here. Thanks for all the help and insight that has been put into making my swing better. Thank You.
