Good mechanics breed confidence, so good form is the key over the long term. On any given day it doesn't matter how good your mechanics are if your confidence is shot.
Hitting is 75% mechanics & 95% confidence.
There are a few ways to look at this one. A perfect swing that a hitter with little confidence has is not worth much. Great confidence with a flawed swing can go a long way if the hitter has good eye-hand coordination.

Good mechanics and form will breed good confidence... Ultimately, a good pitcher (or person calling the pitches) will see the holes in a persons swing with poor mechanics and pitch to those flaws.
