I'm in a slump, 0-8 with 3 k's, 4 ground outs, and one weak line drive to the shortstop. 3 k's in 8 at bats for me is rediculous. In jv baseball I struck out once in 25 plate appearances. And no, the competition isn't much better, if at all better. I know there is probably nothing you can do without seeing me, but what do you do when you get in a slump? Maybe try a new bat, or something like that? Or any words of advice that may help?

Go out there and knock someone in. You're the same guy that went 25 AB's with one SO. No more talk of slumps or changing bats. That is unless you changed since JV ball. I'd do some hand eye work with small wiffles and a broom stick if anything. Then go out there and hit the ball!! You know you can do it and so does everyone else.

Oh yeah, wake up early and have breakfast with that bat.

Tr and PG gave some sound advice here. The mental approach of "one at a time" is the best approach for a ballplayer IMO. Its is also very hard for young players to get into their heads. 1 at bat, 1 pitch, 1 game at a time. Streaks are overrated and so are slumps. But don't tell that to a player going thru one.
He will need to be told to concentrate on 0 for 0 or 0 for 1. Then go get 'em.
I had a game yesterday, and there was a really fast runner on second, I saw the coach give him a steal, so I wasn't worried about crushing it, all I was trying to do was get it in play, and ended up hitting it in the 1st-2nd hole, and got an RBI infield groundout. I would say that's a pretty successful 0-1, so as long as you are diong something wit the ball, and putting it in play, you have a chance to get on base. Work on your swing to get more line drives, but if you aren't putting it into play, it won't matter. Just concentrate on putting the bat o the ball.
I had more success at the plate today. 2-4 with a triple, a single, and a walk. Too bad I came in with a 5 run lead and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th (extra innings) to pitch and managed to give up 6 runs. A bases clearing double on a 3-2 fastball by the #9 hitter (he happened to be 5-9 250 and pretty athletic). Then the next kid happened to be on varsity and turned on a first pitch fastball which should have been a single, but was misplayed by the left fielder which resulted in him getting to 3rd. Then the next hitter, a freshman and a backup shortstop for varsity who is considered the next big thing in my high school, hit a groundball with the infield in that found a hole to score the winning run. Oh well, this is a hitting topic, at least I got 2 hits.
A real slump is when you are not hitting the ball real hard - or not hitting it at all.

A "statistical slump" means little if you are smoking line drives all over the field - and they happen to be right at people. Just like a "statistical hot streak" means little if you are nubbing dribblers and beating them out.

It all evens out if you play enough games.

TR, I'm just playing in a city league with kids from the JV and Freshman teams alot with others that didn't make it. My city has legion and babe ruth but all the rain we had in New England that one weekend made everything confusing. Babe Ruth didn't hold tryouts, just called up kids to play, and legion had tryouts indoors, which I didn't know about. There's no guaruntee I would have made either team, but it would have been worth a shot. I just like playing the game and want to continue to do so as long as I can, weather it be in high school, babe ruth, legion, or a town league.

I thought this only went on where I live. Unfortunately I'm wrong.
