Just thought I'd spread a little holiday cheer in here!!!!

They dont call them the HOLIDAZE for nothing, now do they? ( tee-hee )
While browzing I saw a sign for us gals
that read : " Santa Help-her " and I had to giggle.

Since this is such a busy time of year with all of the hustle and bustle, I thought I'd slow down for a second to wish you all
the BEST HOLIDAY SEASON EVER!!
Whether you are shopping, baking, packing & moving, wrapping, traveling, or simply making somebody's day brighter, I want to send you all good tiding and cheer!

May your egg-nogg ( or something a wee bit more potent, if you so desire ) glass be filled to the rim this year, may there be something special under the tree or in your heart, and may you and your loved ones stay safe & warm, embraced by joy.

Merry Christmas to one and all!!!
Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza,...Happy EVERYTHING!!!
Feliz Navidad, & Melekalikimaka too!!!

Hugzzzzzzz with a little extra HO-HO-HO!!!! and hot cocoa for all!!!!!!

shortstopmom ...

My mom makes a really creamy fudge and I found the recipe on the internet ... I always got a chuckle out of the name of the recipe since it is allegedly Mamie Eisenhower's recipe (and it didn't have any "adult beverages" in it which she supposedly consumed) ...

MAMIE'S MILLION DOLLAR FUDGE
(Although Mamie was not known for her culinary prowess, she did earn fame for her sumptuous fudge, which Ike named and often enjoyed)

Ingredients:

4 1/2 cups Sugar
2 Tablespoon Butter
Pinch of salt
1 tall can Evaporated Milk
12 oz Semisweet Chocolate Bits
12 oz German Sweet Chocolate Bits
1 pt Marshmallow Cream

Optional:
2 c Nuts chopped (walnut or otherwise)

Directions:

Heat the sugar, butter, salt, and evaporated milk over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and boil for 6 min.

Put chocolate bits, German chocolate, and marshmallow cream (as well as chopped nuts if you are going to use them) in a bowl. Pour the boiling syrup over the ingredients.

Beat by hand until the chocolate is all melted, then pour in a pan.

Let stand for a few hours before cutting.
Remember, it is better the second day.
Store in a tin box. (My mom always puts the individual pieces in those little candy papers and it makes it a lot easier for individuals to pick up.)

We have enjoyed this recipe since I was a kid ... probably not long after Ike left office and when the chocolate was less expensive to buy

Thank you all sooooooo much!
Once again the HSBBW gals come through with shining colors & an extra special thank you for your time, as I know how busy this season keeps us!

I have a Bunco party and office Xmas party that I need to bring something yummy to and figured I could make a treat for the neighbors too while I'm at it.

Fudge it is this year!!!

If anyone else has any more fudge recipes ( peanut butter, white etc. ) please post too!

Thank you FutureBack.Mom for taking the time
to type all of that! Do your fingers hurt?
( how have you been feeling lately? )

Btbballfannumber1, I have never heard of Velveeta fudge! Who woulda' thunk???

Thank youuuu!!! I've gotta get crackin around here. Lots of fudge to be made!! Num!
One piece for them, two for me,...one piece for them ,...two for me. Big Grin

Merry Christmas!!!

The Velveeta fudge recipe says "Makes about 3 pounds of Velveeta Fudge." FBM's recipe doesn't specify, but I'm guessing about the same. What I wonder is - how many more pounds of MN-Mom would these recipes make?!?! Roll Eyes They sound TOOOO good, I'm afraid if I made them for family and friends, I would sample too much!

Julie
FBM, thanks so much for posting that recipe. I was just thinking about that Good Old Fashioned Fifties Fudge the other day and knew I no longer had the recipe.

My Mom used to make it until I got into high school and took over the honors. I made a huge batch for my co-workers at my part-time job during college one year, and immedietly got back two of the four distributed tins....for refills. And a lovely thank you note I still remember "One of the few joys of being an adult on Christmas morning (and there are darn few) is being able to eat fudge before breakfast. Thanks for making my Christmas morning particularly sweet."

Fifties Fudge will be back this year!
shortstopmom ...

I didn't need to type it all ... I used copy and paste directly from the internet. Thank goodness for those tools, eh?

MN-Mom ...

The recipe on the internet said it made 'one serving' ... sounds like my kind of recipe LOL

Ref my health ...

Some days are good, some not so good. Christmas decos this year consist of a few lights outside, a tree (which only has lights right now and will be just lightly decorated, and perhaps a few Santas and such in the living room. (Altho I love my Christmas decorations, I actually find it kind of calming to not be rushing around the house with dusty boxes in tow ...) But I am able to get things done like housecleaning (do you have any idea how much dust collects in rooms that haven't been dusted in 4 months? Seems I am more ready for Easter with the bunnies than for Christmas.) and that actually is a real treat for me these days. Using oxygen when sleeping and working around the house but try to do as much as possible without it so I can learn to live with the altered breathing. The disease has definitely altered my lifestyle but I need to get used to it ... it may improve short term but long term ... well, it is a progressive disease. (Darn those cigarettes and my stupidity ... ) And thanks for asking.

Hey FBM...in between taking care of Marv, and the dust bunnies....remember us.....yes,.."You Who Have Been There, Done That"...in the daughter-in-law department, the pro ball player department, and keeping unruly male posters in line department....absolutely no excuses.....just turn that oxygen tank right side up and keep on posting lady!!!

Thank you....
Orlando ...

Perhaps I could start using that as my new HSBBW signature line ... very appropriate.

Actually got some shopping done today ... my personal angel (next door neighbor 25 years now) and I went out ... oxygen tank in her car 'just in case' and I am actually starting to look forward to Christmas now (wasn't so sure a week ago).

LadyNmom ...

Well, yes, have been there, done that, and even bought the t-shirt but some things are best not told ... you know, like not telling a first time pregnant lady what REALLY happens when labor starts ... so I will leave some of the mother-in-law stuff to PM's

A little Christmas shopping can always make the spirit feel better... well, at least many of us! Smile I do assume they've provided you a small portable unit Mary Ann. Again, glad you've improved some and able to get out of the house!!

So Mary Ann...is this a "hypothetical" situation, or have you neglected to tell us something???? Confused

OHMYGOODNESS !!! Can you even imagine that at my age? And on top of everything else that has happened this year? I still believe there is a good reason why God created menopause for us ladies ... some (most?) of us are not geared to have small children running around while we are flashing (hot that is) all over the place. And as good as Marvelous Marv has been these past 4+ months, I am pretty sure he wouldn't be ready for something like that.
Well Ladies, I've discovered one good thing about moving at the Holidays....don't know if any of you have done this before....but I'll buy Christmas gifts early, hide them, and then forget them....but this year....by golly....I'm finding them....everywhere....even from a few Christmas's ago!

I'm logging off....have to finish up today, Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy New Year to you all!
Gail ...

May I add my best wishes for a safe journey into your new adventure? Tho we never did make it for a face-to-face meeting (and to think we lived only 20 miles apart), I feel like I have gained another friend from this site. I just know you and yours will love your new home, which of course has nothing to do with being closer to your son, right?

Have a wonderful new life. I look forward to reading about your journey to the East once you are settled in. Drive safely.

BTW, Gail. At your age, I would think you would be able to hide your own Christmas presents.

That would have been a fun thing to do between now and New Year's since we're all just coutning the days until baseball starts once the Christmas holiday is over!!! We could have placed bets and wouldn't Gail have felt good knowing everyone's thoughts were truly with her on her journey!!!

Mele Kalikimaka to one and all!!!

Shortstopmom....I think of YOU everytime I listen to my new Bette Midler "Cool Yule" CD...as she sings "Mele Kalikimaka" on this CD! Just so you know...you are in my thoughts at LEAST twice a day lately! Big Grin

So...Mele Kalikimaka to you! Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad! Froehliche Weinachten too! And have a Cool Yule! Wink
Better late than never...
Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge

Take:
2 cups sugar
3 Tlb. cocoa
1 cup milk
3 Tlb. Karo syrup
pinch of salt

Mix well and heat to soft ball stage

When at soft ball stage take off heat and add:
1 Tlb. butter
1 Tlb. vanilla
3 Tlb. Peanut Butter

Beat well and when you feel it start to thicken pour into greased 9x9 pan. Cool, cut and enjoy.
Thanks Hoovmom!! You betcha better late than never! Hey,..New Years is right around the corner,..perhaps a little fudge for the future, eh? ha!
Luvbb,...you made my heart smile with your comments!! Oldest son is stationed down in Florida on the beach and sent me a pic of a palmtree decorated in Xmas lights,....ahhhh such sweet fun memories! He said he sent me a box of sand too,..uhhhh,....welllllll,... I know its the thought that counts, right? ha!

Happy New Year to ALL!!!! Hope you gals had a great Christmas!!!
Oh Hoovmom ...

Peanut butter and chocolate? I may just have to try that one too (tho I have more than enough chocolate candy and fudge in my house right now). But shouldn't that be "heat to soft hard ball stage" ???

MN-Mom ...

I asked my mom and she said that the recipe actually makes 5 pounds of fudge ... yep, single serving ... sounds just about right for me
Futureback Mom - LOL - it took me a minute but I got it! I'd give you a temp for a candy thermometer but I don't have or use one. My family likes this recipe because it's a chocolate/PB mix rather than the layering type. As a word of warning - if you take it past the soft stage you run the risk of the whole works seizing up in to one large glob when you add the other ingredients! I did it the first time I made it! Let me know if anyone makes it and how it goes.
