I'm a pretty big guy, but I've never really had a home run stroke. For power hitters, are your home runs merely "accidents" or are you doing something to your swing that allows you to crank the ball yard? I read an interview with A-rod and he said his homers are "accidents".

Learn to turn on the pitch.

The turn is that little hip movement in your swing that increases bat speed and leverage.

Most hitters only feel the 'turn' when they crank a ball foul longer than any shot they ever hit fair.

The idea is to adjust your stance and aim enough that will make that cranked shot a fair ball.

I usually recommend that hitters aim for the opposite gap on their natural swing. When they do get that good contact and turn on the ball, it will fly.

Learning to incorporate the turn into every swing will add more power to everything you are currently hitting.

Remember, don't swing hard, swing fast.
Here's how I see it. If you have a good power swing..homeruns will come. I don't believe in swinging for the fences everytime like BlueDog says but more like swinging your hardest every time. I'm not sure if thats more like what he means. Every swing should be your full effort. The difference is swinging for the fences is pulling your hips out and having an exagerated uppercut swing.

Not sure what you mean, but there are many cases of players developing HR power long after developing a good swing and being a good hitter.

PGStaff, how would you know, seriously?? Confused

Because a good swing in your opinion is most assuredly not what many others would qualify a good swing to be...

1367 posts and you have never said anything worth anything. PG helped develop his son who went on to play in the major leagues. Who have you developed?

Yakyu kid,....incoming left and right between posters,...just duck and read around it. I'm sure more posters will be here soon to get to answer your question and add their opinions to your post.

For those of you throwing insults back and forth,..do you think you could at leat do it outdoors away from the thread or perhaps through backdoor pm's. We have a player/student on this site who was looking for answers. Lets try and help him.
Please.

Actually, the truth is, I have never said anything you agreed with......So, obviously, I'm on the right track!!

I wish you would say something I could agree or disagree with, but you don't. Just 1372 posts of nothing along with smart alex remarks.

Jerry helped develop his son. Who have you helped develop?
shortstop mom- Big Grin

Yakyu- I never believed you should try to hit HR's, but you should certainly try to hit every ball as hard as you possibly can every time you take a cut. If you have the natural power, solid mechanics and enough velocity from the mound, sooner or later you're going to catch one and ride it out.
