Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., is offering $64,200 in merit aid over four years for anyone who is eligible to receive the state’s HOPE scholarships, which were developed to attract stellar but not necessarily needy students to state colleges and universities. The discount will cut the cost of attending the private college in half. (To pay for the increase in aid, no cut is too small: the college even replaced its traditional holiday greeting card with an e-card.)

ASC is quite small, but has a substantial endowment--that has suffered a 30% decline with the market. Still, it can afford a little wiggle room with regard to money awards. Sorry baseball players, it's a women's college, but softball players are welcome! (My alma mater.) Can't beat the education, the location, and the weather.
A male player?! (Heavens no.) Or a female? Also, be aware that the HOPE is the state's lottery-funded scholly given to GA residents only, so this particular aid would be earmarked for in-state applicants. Even so, there is aid available to out of state too. Over 70% of students at ASC get aid.

Privates here lose a lot of quality students to the free education provided by the state of GA if you go to a state school. ASC is simply trying to make it worthwhile for these students to apply to a private--incentives that bring the cost relative to education and experience down to an attractive level for GA students.

PM me if you need more info.

There is that magic word again "discriminates"---funny how the females can enter the male world but not vice versa !!!!

In fact a HS wrestler, FEMALE, made the state finals yesterday in CT--- but if an athlete wants to try out for the female gymnastics team, there is no male gymnastics team, he cannot---what is that all about!!!!!

Also just heard of college baseball roster cut so the college can start another female program DUH !!!!!
I also support educational institutions that are all male, if that's what they choose to be. There still are a few out there, but men tend to be less willing to attend them so it's hard to keep them open. It's not easy getting women to attend single-gender institutions either, but there is compelling research that justifies the choice. There are trade-offs too, of course.

Actually, there are some men at ASC... in the graduate programs. They don't live on campus, though. I know there have been institutions, like the Citadel, that have been forced to accept women. It's my understanding that it had to do with it operating with some federal funding, which ASC does not. If you sleep with the Feds, you play by their rules.
