Re: Playing to win at showcase tournaments

I believe teams teams play hard to win. But the best players may not always be on the field so everyone gets exposure. The talent level on good teams is high enough that unless you know the talent on the roster you wouldn't know the best players aren't on the field at the moment.

There are ways to play in tournaments without devoting the entire summer.

i will try to say this with the least amount of promotion as possible. So I won't mention PG.

There are some other events that we scout and follow closely.  Some of those include Area Codes, ECP, USA, and AC Tryouts.

If a player has any good tools (run, throw, field, hit, hit with power) it can be extremely beneficial to attend an individual showcase for both us and the player.  It is also beneficial for us and the player to evaluate that player in competitive games against high level competition. One without the other leaves some questions unanswered.

It is possible to create lots of interest doing either showcases or tournaments.  But to evaluate a player more accurately, both are necessary Or at least best. Truth is that those that get the most draft and recruiting interest seem to stand out in both type events.

I do understand that these things can get expensive.  It is important to know that help exists if a player has enough talent. Problem is some of the help is actually illegal according to NCAA rules.  However, there are legal ways to get help. There are lots of people that want to help talented kids and without getting anything in return.

There might be people (in fact, there are) on this site that have helped talented kids other than their own children and expect nothing in return.  It is very rewarding when you get involved in helping a talented young kid succeed.  It's a much better feeling than making a bunch of money. Every kid deserves a chance! My goal is to make that happen some day.  I'm willing to prove it... if you know of a talented kid that lacks the resources to get an opportunity contact me.

RJM,

You know I really don't know what a showcase tournament is.  I know we don't label WWBA or BCS as showcase tournaments. Yet some of them are the most scouted events in baseball.

For that matter I don't know what a showcase team is either.  I know the best teams that play in our events do not call themselves a showcase team. Not sure how that got started. It must be a marketing thing.

i do hear it a lot these days. What would be an example of a showcase team?

Sometimes finding the right team can be hard. Lets say you live in Nebraska and the best travel team in your area is gonna hit a few Community Colleges around the midwest and then run over to St. Louis for the big finale. But you think your son has a little more to offer than just the short schedule that was prepared for you. A PG showcase can help you reach some of those Coaches that a travel team may not get in front of.

Any event where a player can showcase his talents in front of a lot of scouts is a showcase event. Sometimes it's an individual showcase. Other times it's a tournament the team is participating in front of a lot of scouts. While you don't name your tournaments showcase tournaments a lot of people consider them to be so. Once my son was a high school sooh his team only played in these kinds of events.
