2014 played on a DII college campus last fall. Played in three games on a Saturday and hit very well. Later that evening, he received an email from the recruiting coordinator noting that they liked how he played and they had an interest going forward. He responded back with a thank you, and completed the recruiting questionnaire.

He later attended a fall DI college camp a month later and the Head coach from the aforementioned DII was in attendance, and provided the instruction at his primary position. But, he heard nothing from this school following the fall camp.

Last month, the DII recruiting coordinator emails back requesting that he plan to make a visit in the fall. There was a detailed list of things to do including application, financial aid estimator, transcripts, clearinghouse, and test scores. The instructions were to get those things completed and sent in and then to find a time in the fall for a visit. The email noted that they would be back in touch.

I guess my question is, does this seem like the school has genuine interest, or is this the type of blanket thing that schools do to their email list to try and see who responds and/or qualifies.

My two cents....they are interested but have a strange way of showing it by allowing that much time to lapse.   Maybe they were interested in someone else at your son's position and that person is no longer in the running....you'll probably never find out

Possibly, they want to find out if your son is still interested, and how serious your son may be in their program by sending him that email.  I think my next step would be to have a baseline conversation (no email) about the opportunity with the coach.  I would think that your son moved on (from last Fall) and is pursuing other programs.  If this is something he is still interested in, then pursue it (along with the other opportunities).
