We went to a few. Most are money grabs to pay for volunteer coaches ..not all are bad but know what you are getting for your money and be prepared for little to no contact afterwards.
@RJM posted:One weekend fall day I was driving by Villanova’s field. They were having a camp. I stopped to watch for a few hours. There were 36 players. They do four of these.
Of the about 25 position players only 4 had D1 bats. I mentioned to a Villanova pitcher I knew. When I pointed them out he told me it was the same four the Villanova players picked out. It turned out they were invited post PG. The other 21 position players were locals on a prayer.
Every position player had good hands and a good arm. But the difference in swings was obvious to a baseball person. The other 21 were likely all conference players around the area who didn’t understand the difference between very good high school player and D1 prospect.
Villanova an interesting example of not just the money side of things but also the question of what makes sense to spend your money and focus on. Villanova is obviously a terrific HA school, but it’s certainly fair to say it’s had it troubles from a baseball program POV. Should athletes be spending all of this money chasing a D1 dream for D1’s sake or should they be more seriously considering a D3 path where the academics are equally competitive and the baseball maybe even superior? Just another layer to the original question to which my answer is “It’s ALL a money grab”! But what part of that money grab can actually benefit you?

My son (pre high school) and I would go to Nova games when teams like Louisville, West Virginia and Notre Dame would come to town. He never wanted to go there. He watched them lose too much. They’ve always been a bottom feeder. I once heard they only have six scholarships.
