How early do college recruiting letters start getting sent to students? A D1 in California just sent one to my son who will be entering the 8th grade in August. Is this just some kind of fluke or something? How did they get his contact info?

What kind of letter was it? Was it a camp brochure? If a camp brochure, could have somehow been on a mailing list the college coaches obtained.

If it was any other type of correspondence, I would have to say it was a fluke/mistake. NCAA rules are very restrictive on what a college can send a prospective student-athlete until their JR year in HS.
