How good would the players from the United States be if the MLB organizations sponsored academies in the states like they do in some of the other countries? These academies would have academics in the morning and baseball related activites in the afternoon and the MLB organizations would pay for everything. Why do they not do this in the US?

It's very simple, why should they. Nearly everyone I know who has a kid who they think can play (it includes me) shell out thousands of dollars for our kids to play travel/select ball. The kids in these other countries don't/can't.

Plus the basic cost is a drop in the bucket as to what it would cost here. I'd bet the required government insurance alone, would cost more than the entire program for some of the countries.

Precisely.

Why spend tons of YOUR money on something when you can get someone else to spend tons of THEIR money on it.
