The comment on the Christmas thread got me thinking.  Haven't had to buy a bat (or glove) for 3 years since son went to college.  Actually kinda miss it...was always fun seeing son's face when he got a new bat (which was way too often).   We would buy bats on ebay  if we found a deal...if he didn't like them, I could usually get my money back.  I was the world's best bat trader for a couple years.  Heck, we ordered what was supposed to be a 30-25 when he was in 7th grade....it was from some closeout place...had a torn wrapper, ripped grip, etc...but it was $70...ok, took a chance.  Showed up a 33-30 of the same bat (which was a huge seller at the time)...no damage.  Called the company....knowing full well I got a deal.  He said "I don't know what happened...I don't have the smaller one...do you want to keep it?".  Sold it two days later for $250.

How many bats did you buy (or are still going to buy) for your son?   I'm gonna conservatively guess that from T-ball thru HS, including wood, we probably had 50+ go thru our house

100+ for 3 baseball players and counting.  Rarely buy them new. Seems to slow down with BBCOR.  The Demarni Zen and CF issues this past year for my younger guys (where they were breaking and becoming illegal) probably accounted for 10. Sold some of those used on ebay for more than $500 which paid for some of the mistakes we've made over the years.

College junior now. I bought him one metal or composite bat per year until 11th grade. Always a top model from a previous year (or two). Probably bought 6 wood bats in high school until he found Chandler. Bought two custom pro in 11th grade that served him well right up until last summer. He's scheduled for a "fitting" to get two new ones over holiday break. Those two just need to last him one more summer.

I have no idea.  Let's see.  Son graduated HS in 2016.  I probably bought 10 youth bats (2 1/4) before he claimed to have found his favorite which was the Combat B1.  That thing was hot and I bought 3 of them before they disappeared from stock.  Once we couldn't find those anymore, he went to the Demarini CF4 and I bought 3 of them as well.  After he aged out of the youth bats, he never really found a favorite.  This was bad for me because I bought at least 10-15 (2 3\4  2 5\8) drop 10 and drop 5 bats before he got to the BBCOR years.  I bought him one for 8th grade and 2 more for his first couple years in HS.  As a Junior he found the Louisville Slugger Raid and I bought 2 of those.  Fortunately he was a PO by the time he got to the Showcase years and we only bought him 4 wood bats.  So for a rough total it looks like I bought about 40 bats.  I bought most of the bats online and can only remember buying two wood and two or three metal bats at an actual store.  Saved a lot of money that way.

Not sure.  My guess is 2 bats a year from the age of 8 (or so) until 12.  Then probably 3 bats a year for a couple of years.  Until he ended up on a team that used only wood bats.  Hey its going to be cheaper (yeah right).  Probably went threw 4 or 5 bats the first year until he learned how to swing them properly.  Then maybe 3 bats total for the next two years.

As far as HS goes, I want to say two bats frosh year.  1 soph year and added 2 bats for his JR and Sr year.

Hmmnn. A lot. My son played grade 1 through 12th and then a mens wood bat league.

Probably 3 every 2 years plus a few wood bats for BP and those odd wood bat tournaments. And a few LL metal bats that just "did not work out". Probably 30 or so, all told, including 10 wood bats since they break contagiously (like hits and errors). By the BBCOR era (my son used Rawling 5150 velo), I did my best to buy a new bat from the previous or even two previous seasons to save $.

I am very pleased all the bats purchased were well below retail! My latest deal was a LS 517 32/29 for under 80 bucks! and I got a custom pro maple wood 32/29 for $48 with custom colors and engravement....I was really hoping my exciment of the $$ saved would rub off to my better half, but alas she was not the least bit impressed and calls it "baseball tithing"

I stand corrected. I asked the boy, and he proceeded to name each and every one of them. 22 in total, so far. He not only rattled them off, he provided the highlights of each...including his stats for 3 of them. Almost sorry I even asked, but it's kind of cool to know that he created such good memories with them. (7 baseball gloves, so far, including his lefty catcher's mitt. About a billion batting gloves.)

FANTASTIC!  Love what they remember!  My son can remember what happened in a game he played against a travel team in another state 4 years ago, but can't remember to throw his clothes in the hamper.

more then I care to remember...my favorite was the original Easton Mako. He had to have one. He won a starting job a soph...started off the year about 0-10 and sold that bat before it was able to wreck his season!

I remember at one point he had names engraved on his wood bags, Enola Gay, Little Boy, MOAB...glad that phase past quickly.
