Havw seen a few P around here that seem to be pitching a lot w short time off esp during tourn time. Saw one P complaining of arm pain but was back on mound in 5 days after pitching 7 inning Game.

What is the average number of innings P pitch on HS level. Most of our boys pitch 90-110 pitches a game. Few have pitched 7-8 games, not sure how many innings most have, some may have been run ruled games that end after 5th.

just curious what you guys see where your at.

Obviously IP for a HS season will vary from school to school based on total games played, including post season progression.  For (what I think is) a fairly typical 30-35 game HS season, I think primary pitchers will be between maybe 15 and 40 IP (With various other guys picking up a few innings here and there).  Just a guesstimate.

BTW... pitcher complaints of arm pain need to be evaluated and monitored certainly, but there's a big difference between a sore arm and an injured arm.  So what's the issue with pitching 5 days after a complete game outing?  That represents proper rest between starts to me.

You’ll see that mainly with the very good pitchers or the best pitchers on a team. Its what coaches do because they don’t have the capacity to develop other pitchers, but want to win.

Here’s 3 metrics I do for our team. The 1st is pretty basic stuff. The 2nd gets into a bit more detail and gives parents a good idea about how their child is being used. The last is much more detailed, but is basically the same thing.

My son pitched in 11 games with 10 starts and 1 save this season for 66 innings. He averaged 91 pitches a game.
He is taking summer off from pitching to be ready for juco fall season.
He had a set routine and even missed a start one week because he told coach shoulder was hurting. The coach trusted him and he trusted the coach. He was very vigilant about ice, stretching, lifting, etc.

it was not a sore arm but pain right after game. I saw coaches get medical bag and go talk w him-maybe they were giving him ice who knows. My son has some soreness the next day after pitching but not during outing. If kid is shaking his arm around and rubbing it after game it's probably not a good thing. I would not have put him back up there 5 days later. Know his Summer team  wouldn't be happy to hear it, they were depending on him in a few wks.
