Hi dalvarez11,
You also wrote in another thread...
"How likely is it for an All-District kind of player who led the team in most offensive categories to walk on to a .700 DII school?"
I assume you are talking about yourself and trying to determine what your chances are of walking on and making a college team at the school you will be attending this fall?
You should do a search on this site for information regarding walking on. It's a tough proposition. You should also realize that the majority of college baseball players were some level of all-league, all-county, all-area, etc. and led their HS teams in most offensive or pitching categories.
So, in general, it would be a long-shot. But that doesn't mean it can't happen. Have you had any dialog with the coach? Are you familiar with any of the players on the team?

If I'm mis-interpreting the reason for your threads, please expand on exactly what you are trying to determine.
If you are truly just curious, it is not terribly uncommon for a player to mature and come into his own and/or finally get the right opportunity during his senior season but usually the better players in a given HS league will start to surface and perform earlier.
Are you describing yourself? Are you getting offers?

I thought I would get some offers..I'm thinking they dismissed me because I'm 5'7 and 140 pounds; just another s****** shortstop who goes unnoticed. I'll try my hand at walking on to a D2 school cause I don't wanna just give up on my dream. I read Pedroia's book and the same thing happened to him, except he got offers because he dominated the California Area Code games.

Although not a hitter, but a pitcher, it happened to my son.

After junior year, the coach picks his 4 best players to attend a free showcase in June here in the area that is VERY heavily attended by colleges. My son wasn't picked to go to the showcase and was cut from the Legion team that May.

Senior year he went to a showcase in Atlanta in October and was named Top Prospect. He was seen by a Pirates scout at a fall ball game a week later and within days the phone began ringing every night. He went on to set nearly every pitching record at our school and many in our conference, being clocked in the low 90's. He wound up with several good offers from D1's.

It happens.

dave,
I don't know it is all that important to this thread but I don't recall Pedroia being cut from his college team.
To my recall, he was recruited from a smaller town near Sacramento, CA, to ASU by Pat Murphy, beat out everyone at shortstop, played 3 years and was drafted. bbscout who posted on the site for many years loved Pedroia and raved about his work ethic and tenacity dating back to HS.

If he got offers because of the Area Code games, then he got them after his HS junior season...entering senior year in HS. Not after his senior HS season.

Back when he was being recruited, this was more the norm...recruiting mostly happened between HS junior and senior seasons.

Different than today.

You know, instead of trying to walk on at a D-2 school, you may want to consider a local JUCO instead. The cost would be cheaper to attend, and at the same time you can work on improving your bat speed and physical strength. You can't do anything about your height, but you can turn yourself into the best conditioned athlete on the field.Turn those singles into doubles, and those doubles into homeruns.

The bigger guys will ALWAYS have more chances to fail at this game. That's the way it is.Become the guy who has a nice solid build with serious bat speed Smile

My 2014 son is one of those vertically challenged players. He's 5'9", hopes to reach at least 6'0", but since I'm only 5'8 and his mom is 5'2" it's probably not going to happen. However, he weighs 185 lbs. and is built like a tank.He decided a couple of years ago to become the best athlete he could possibly be.For him, that means working out 6 days a week and eating right.

Earlier this year at a Trosky Showcase, a 2010 player from my son's high school was participating. He was the oldest guy there and was going into his second season at San Diego City College(JC).He too wanted to keep the dream alive. He performed well at the showcase and had a good final season at City College.Last month he signed on to finish his last 2 years at La Sierra University.A good NAIA school in Riverside,Ca.His dream is alive and well and he'll earn his degree Smile

Don't give up on your dream. Just work harder than everyone else !

Good luck in your journey.
