I too am new to the forum... and as a parent of a daughter and son,,, both of whom are passionate about baseball and great students...I can only speak from my experience...

My son, "bloomed" early and had a girlfriend during the winter. Once baseball got into full swing in the spring... there wasn't enough time for her and his first passion... he was always on the field. He made the decision he did not have time to maintain the relationship... (A good choice on his part)...

My daughter... has a boyfriend that lives and breaths baseball... of which she is also passionate about. I believe she grounds him an provides valuable support. She does however know the etiquette of "baseball dating" and does not interfere in the game... instead she participates by keeping impeccable stats...

Bottom line... if done right... and priorities are clear... I think your son can enjoy school, sports and a date... generally in that order...
Recommendation... get the girl a mitt... on their first date she can play catch... kill two birds with one stone!

Good Luck!
