HR Review...Who's Call?

I can't watch the Yankee/Ranger game right now but I heard about Cano's HR. I also found a still photo on mlb.com showing what surely looks like fan interference.

The article also talks about Berkman's HR in the same inning that WAS reviewed.

Why not review Cano's HR? I mean, this game is kinda important. And if HRs are just about all you can review, why not review every one that has ANY type of controversy.

They got the call right. The fans have the right to pursue the ball once it goes over the barrier of the park. Then fans did not interfere with Cruz(?) inside the confines of the park. Cruz jumped into them and that's where the contact occurred.

Look at the shadows on the fence...the fans are clearly reaching out into the field of play.

And...is that Jeffrey Mayer on the left?

But if you watch the replay, the fan went over the wall before the ball did and the fans arms blocked Cruz from going up to catch the ball. It was a blown call. Not reviewable, per the announcers, because the ump ruled the ball left the field first...which was wrong.

Plus, the ball looks like it hit ON TOP of the fence NOT over the fence and cleanly into the crowd.

I think it was a good call. Yes the fans were reaching over the fence and Cruz's glove ran into the arm of the very classy NY Yankee fan who told Cruz how much he appreciated the hustle he showed on the play.

I don't think he had a chance to catch the ball even if the bleachers were empty. No catch the ball still ends up in the bleachers.

Best part of that pic is Chevy Chase sitting in the next row back and didn't even budge for the homer.

FYI I doubt that's really Chevy Chase, but at first glance it struck me as looking a lot like him.

I also think the call was right.

Clearly it is fan interference. But, it's part of the game. Yankee fans interfered with Gardner on the Hamilton pop-up. It's just what Yankee fans do!
