HS coaches guide to be trully annoying to MLB Scouts.( True stuff that HS coaches requently do to be annoying)

1) take BP in the batting cages and not on the diamond. Why make your players chase baseballs. Keep them scouts guessing on if you have any power.

2) tell your players not to throw fult tilt in infield/outfield practice. Scouts just love those rainbows throws in field/outfield practice

3) Skip on throws during infield/outfield from outfielders to home plate.

4) not have your catchers throw down to 2nd.

5) not have a roster available for the MLB scouts. Keep them guessing who the players are.
or have the roster written on napkin. It happens often

6) have players take infield/ outfield in warm ups without numbers on their shirts. MLB scouts just love to guess who just threw the ball

7) change the pitching rotation at the last minute and not tell the MLB scouts. Cross Checkers just love to come to games and have the pitcher they came to see playing shortstop

8)Not have the pitching rotation or HS schedule on the HS coaches answering machine.

9) Change the game times at the last minute and not tell the MLB scouts

10) Throw the pitching prospects all the time, Pitch count, why do you need that. MLB scouts just love to see all those 90 mph HS pitchers on the DL

11) exaggerate radar readings, add 5 mph to all your pitchers velocity. MLB scouts just love to see those 90 mph pitchers throw low 80's

12) give MLb scouts last years roster, they love to find out half the players listed are in college now

sorry TR, but having a roster of your players and properly doing BP and infield/ outfield is just common sense and it helps greatly in getting your players scouted and drafted by the pro's or getting them college scholarships.

alot of HS coaches are very good and do their job properly, but alot ruin a HS players future by throwing them to death and parents are too scared to say anything until it is too late

andy,

To echo TR...you make it sound like coaches do these things on purpose to annoy the scouts and you are wrong. I don't know of a HS coach who would deliberately keep a kid from being seen.

If a coach makes a pitching change, it is not his responsibility to call all of the local scouts. If a scout is any good, he will call to confirm prior to dragging his Regional to a game in B.F. Egypt.
redbird, whether some one does something on purpose, or they are just clueless ,the same result the player is hurt because of the coach's actions.

but to tell MLB scouts you gonna pitch someone and then not throw him, unless there is an injury is not real bright and hurts the player alot in the draft.

I have found over the years that High School Coaches have been very helpful to me as a scout. Any that I have had even minor problems with were usually just young coaches that were a little inexperienced. Most all coaches want to help their prospect and are very accommodating to the scouts.

The College Coaches used to be hard to deal with, then about 10-12 years ago they started being more helpful and the scouts would return the favor. Two years ago a lot of Colleges started something that got under my skin. They started wearing tops in BP and Infield with no numbers on them. It makes it a little difficult for a crosschecker to go into a park to watch a player and then during BP, not know who that player is. I talked to Bob Williams about this and the schools are fortunate that I don't run an Area Code Team any longer, as I would only allow Pro Scouts to attend the tryouts if I was still running the team. Until the college coaches put numbers on their players backs they would not be allowed to attend.
As noted above any scout worth his salt will make a call the day of the scheduled game for confirmation of time, location and who is pitching---- the kid could be out sick for all he knows

Let me say this-- when my guy was in HS the AD called me every game day at work to let me know who had called him to confirm their attendance that afternoon---there wwere times that the scout who was supposed to attend did not make it because something came up---they did not always call us because it was too late to inform us. We also had many guys show up unannounced.

It is a two way street !!!!

What we have been doing is making sure all parties concerned had my cell phone so they could call us prior to games so we could tell them who was starting etc.--they in turn gave us their cell phones--when people want ti to work it works very nicely
