I'm looking for some info on HS position players' throwing velocities. Specifically 3B, SS, 2B, but curious about all.

For example, would a coach in your area play a kid at 3B on Varsity that throws 71 or would that be too slow? My kid does not throw 71. It's just an example. What velo is considered good enough, but not good, for each position? What velo is considered good for each position?

I realize the level of play in HS can vary SIGNIFICANTLY. Do you play in one the most competitive areas like California etc? Or is HS baseball in your area really weak? I'm just looking to get a general idea and would like to hear from as many people as possible, especially HS coaches.

Thanks!!

The SS is a D1 bound junior and an exceptional HS SS and the others were pretty good seniors so arm strength/velo numbers for this group were a bit higher than what has been the norm for us over the last several years.  I would say that the average for our league is usually low 80's SS, 80ish C and 3B and a bit lower at 2B.  Again, that is average for a mid-tier league in a SoCal Southern Section that has almost 500 schools in it.
