Trying to keep up with all these kids is difficult. I know besides the great performances by David Kopp (Clemson) and Zach Duke (Pittsburgh Pirates), BBScout's son is doing fairly well at UCLA (no surprise). justbaseballs son is pitching at Stanford.

Thought it would be nice to start a new thread to kind of organize a way we can all follow the progress of all the websters sons... High School, College and Pros. I, for one, will be watching closely if people give info.

Anyone care to add some updates?

Backdash, good question! Big Grin Some wonderful performances by the sons of this forum - WAY TO GO TPM's son David Kopp!!! applaude

My son Joe is just having a typical start to his freshman season, RHP at D3 Bethany Lutheran College www.blc.edu. He was happy to get 4 relief appearances of the 8 games on their Florida trip which kicked off their season. No W's, L's or Saves for him yet, but adjusting to "the next level" and doing okay. Loves his team and happy to be playing college baseball!

My son Jeff has played five games so far behind the plate. He has had four baserunners attempt steals he has thrown out three. He has picked one runner off at first. He has had no passed balls. Tonight he was 2-3 with a BB double and single 3rbi. Im very proud of the way he is performing at the varsity level as a Freshman. We are currently ranked #9 in the state. One of the things that has amazed me is he has walked 5 times this year already. This is a big change for him he has really become a more patient hitter but is still agressive when its in the zone. Our first scrimmage he had three at bats and hit first pitch all three times. One was a strike that he doubled on and the other two were balls.
Jerry...My son, George, is having a great junior year at college. He is currently batting a .439 and is a very athletic 2nd baseman. His "2 inches above the ground" backhand outs and other diving catches and snags at this position have been amazing. He just went 3 for 6 during the Villanova Baseball Bash in Philadelphia this past weekend.

I sent you some information on how you can keep up with him the other day. His college is still holding the #1 spot in the HBCU Poll and he is really looking forward to ending his Junior year on a high note.

You wrote a great review on him when he attended the 2002 World Prospect Showcase in Ft. Myers. (Although he no longer has the "Puckett" body that you described in the review. He's lost the "baby fat" and has slimmed down to firm 190.) When he is feeling down or his batting isn't what he would like it to be, we pull the review and it motivates him to keep on "keeping on". Thanks, PG, for all you do to help our kids.

I do a lot of reading here, but not any posting. My son Ross is a soph at Cincinnati Country Day School. This is his second year as a starting varsity player. He is starting 1b and ss, rotating the positions with our senior ace pitcher Kurt Smith who is signed to play at Ohio U. Ross is also a RHP. Last year we were the top ranked Div IV team in the state... we won district championships and advanced to regionals where we lost. This year we look to make a deeper run into the post season.
So as not to repeat anything I said in the after high school thread a month ago, my oldest, a sophomore at Norfolk State, is ever-so-slowly emering from his slump (you don't overcome 0-for-24 quickly). He still hasn't had a two-hit game yet, but did gave a seven-game hitting streak broken last week. He is hitting a lot of balls hard, but still isn't having any luck, but that's part of the game.

Despite his troubles, he has started all but two games this season. We hope and believe the coach's patience will pay off come MEAC tournament time.

My HS freshman son, who is going to be a pretty big kid (he's 6-0, 195, huge hands, size 14 feet), began the JV season as a catcher. He still might do some catching, but he has been working mostly at second base and in the outfield of late. He's not nearly as intense about sports as my older two, which is in a way kind of nice.

While this is a baseball board, my 19-year-old, who played baseball before graduating from HS last year, has advanced with his Junior B hockey team to the Silver Cup tournament, the national championships, starting next week in Blaine, Minn. While he loves hockey, he freely admits he's dying to see his older brother hit against Division I pitching.

That and he wants to watch his younger brother, who is 7, play coach-pitch. It will be his first baseball experience. Here we go again ...

My son Ryan threw a 10 inning, 9k, 0 walks, 110 pitch complete game in a 2-1 win over Iowa last Friday in FL. As a result of that outing he was conference pitcher of the week and named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll. noidea

Now my question. What the heck is the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll. I've been told this is this something new this year and on the CSTV site Ive seen other players named. Does anyone have anymore information?

Newman Smith's Preston Claiborne can do more than pitch. He hit four homers in four games in the Frisco tournament.

Newman Smith goes 2-2 in Frisco tournament
Newman Smith played some of the Dallas-Fort Worth area's top teams last weekend and finished 2-2 in the Frisco tournament. One run was the difference in three of the games.

The Trojans opened the tournament by defeating Wylie, 9-8, and Plano, 12-11. Newman Smith then lost to Flower Mound, 7-1, and to Allen, 8-7.

Newman Smith had a total of more than 30 hits in the first two victories. The Trojans led Allen, 6-0, going into the fourth before running out of pitchers, coach J.T. Blair said. Junior Preston Claiborne had four home runs and nine RBIs in the four games, including two homers in the Plano victory. Jameson Dunn had three doubles against Plano.

"We learned that we can hit with anybody," Blair said. "What it's going to come down to for us is how we pitch and play defense."

Newman Smith was 8-5 overall and 0-1 in District 10-5A heading into its district home game Wednesday against Richardson Berkner (results weren't available by press time). The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was pushed back a day because of threatening weather.

Newman Smith will play Denton Ryan in a nondistrict game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ameriquest Field in Arlington.

Note:
The Trojans lost to Denton Ryan last Saturday, 4-1. Son went o-fer.

As of yesterday, he has 3 wins, i ND, with .259 ERA, 34 K's in 26 innings.

Ahhh, the ups & downs of baseball!

My son is a 6' 170# HS Sophmore, playing 3B and hitting second in the order. After 9 games, he currently has the highest BA on the team at .500 (15-for-30), with 2 doubles and 2 HR's, and 7-for-8 Stolen Bases. (He also has committed the most errors, but we don't like to highlight the negatives, so please ignore that part.)

Last year as a FR, he played RF, hit .347 with 2 HR's, and was named to the All-District team. He told me his goals before the season were to hit .400 this year, .500 as a junior, and .600 as a senior. I'm hoping he learns to catch more ground balls between now and then too.
