The threat of this hurricane affecting the WWBA tourney is horrible. My son and his team has been looking forward to this for weeks. At best it looks like it may dump some rain on the area Thursday and Friday plus hi wind. If the track changes slightly it might dump a ton of rain on the area making the fields unusable....Kids want to play but if the rain and storm comes and they have to cancel all of the Friday games it will be a mad house trying to make them up.

What is the PG policy when it comes to a hurricane that threatens the tourney like this?? Does anyone know?? When will they decide on contingencies?

Guys....let's have some perspective here shall we?

"The hurricane has killed at least seven people over the past few days as it roared across the Caribbean, the Associated Press reported. This included four in the Dominican Republic, one in Haiti, one in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and one in Colombia......."It's much too early to know how bad things are, but we do know there are a lot of houses that have been destroyed or damaged in the south," Jean-Baptiste said. Many streets were flooded or blocked with fallen trees throughout the southwestern peninsula."

We are getting bombarded with phone calls.  As of now, the schedule for the tournament has not changed.  The current forecast for Ft Myers actually looks pretty good as of now.  This would not be the first time we have played a tournament in Ft Myers while a hurricane tracked east of Florida.

We are monitoring Hurricane Matthew very closely. From every source we have, the path of the storm will stay off the East Coast with the eastern half and northeast part of the state receiving the majority of the rain. The Fort Myers area is not projected to get any of the severe weather or wind and has a favorable 10 day forecast. We plan to hold the tournament as scheduled starting Thursday afternoon. If the forecast changes we will update that on our site.

I agree lets have some perspective as to what is really important.

West coast of florida is in no imitate danger of Matthew who has proven to be deadly.

I reside in soflo whete we are under a hurricane watch.

My heart goes out to the poor people of the caribbean who will suffer from the storm.

People need to know that we are not taking this storm lightly.  Last thing we want is to put people in danger.  We will have around 70 employees traveling there to run the tournament.  So far, we have been told Ft Myers will be fine.  If that changes we will notify people ASAP.

As of now, we plan to play the tournament as scheduled.

I pray those living on the East Coast stay safe.

Latest forecast projects the eye of the hurricane to remain offshore by 20-50 miles (American model) or to go slightly inland (European model) and go up the coast.  Either way the west coast is safe unless it makes a real hard left (not likely).

Florida, GA and SC have declared a state of emergency.  SC had ordered a mandatory evacuation of the coastal areas.  I expect NC and VA to declare a state of emergency in the next day or two.

At the moment Matthew is passing over the eastern tip of Cuba.
