How many times have you heard a coach say "Hurry up and throw so we can get started guys". What is the message that you are sending your players when you tell them that? I think the answer is obvious. Kids start at a young age, they put importance on the things that the coach does. I say throw with a purpose everyday. Start out every practice with stretching and throwing (every practice) but dont just throw. Throw with a purpose. What do I mean by that? Put the emphasis on proper throwing mechanics. Commit the time to let them do it the right way and have the time to do it properly. Understand that they will not develop their arm if they are not allowed to do so. Parents beware the AAU coach or Travel coach etc.. that is so intent on getting his team ready to win tournements that he is not teaching your kid the baseball lessons that will help him be a player down the road.

We try to get to the field 2 hrs before game time-- find a place at the site where we can talk and then warm up and be ready to take the field and get into the game-mode--- Any coach is rushing his kids is at fault because he did not have them therte in time to do the proper pre game "warmups"-- we are usually warmed up when we get "on the field".

In tournaments the first thing we do is confirm whether we are home or visitors so our pitchers know the time frame they have

It isnt that hard to be on top of the game !!!
