I live in the city and its got a large group of the citizens upset over the name and the logo. More so though about how Martin is denying that he doesn't see a correlation between his mascot and Jack the Ripper. To make it worse he unveiled it on the night of the atop abuse against women night. It's very very interesting to see what happens next in they city with this issue.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right. You will find on any subject that there will always be a group offended by something.

That being said this is really stretching the boundaries of good taste. Personally I don't have a problem with the name but to unveil the name on stop abuse against women night then that dude doesn't have a clue at all.

On the other hand I really don't see where there's anything to get offended about. Jack the Ripper was 120 years ago in another country. He was a serial killer and not an abuser (yes I realize how ridiculous that statement is but I can see a difference based on the mentality) of women.

Overall though probably go with a different name just to avoid the controversy and definitely NOT unveil the night on stop abuse women night. No need to fight a fight never going to win when you can avoid it.
I don't know about the timing with "stop the abuse" night. That does kind of sound like a bad idea.

However, how do we stretch this to coorelate London, Ontario, Canada with London, England?

Does Vin Scully get reprimanded for saying "boy, he murdered that pitch?" or "the Dodgers killed the Padres tonight?"

You may call this tasteless but this PC BS is even more distastefull to me.

It's silly to call a 'manhole' cover a 'personhole' cover. But calling your team the 'Rippers' is just a stupid marketing mistake....

We've have the 'Toros', the 'Sidewinders', and the 'Wildcats' but no one calls their team here in Tucson the 'Illegal Aliens' and then says it was inspired by men from outer space.... Smile
