Wow, how time flies. Thanks to so many of you I have relished every game this year. He has about 10 more regular season games then tournament. I look back in amazement how far he and his fellow senior friends have come.

He has so many of them, Almost every team he plays has a friend on it, either a summer teammate or a summer competitor he grew to know over the years. His HS team has 11 seniors, 25 started out as freshman on various teams. He was one of 2 on varsity. I thought he was big stuff at 15 getting onto varsity (and he was to a certain extent), Then I saw how small he was compared to upperclassman. How at 15 an 80mph was good but he was seeing much more than that. Many of his now Sr friends made varsity as sophomores. Not any depth in 3 classes above so they were all pushed up. They were the young guns. Good, very good for being so young, but only ok versus upperclassman.

Junior year they were good but adversity was on this team from leadership (coaches who did not get along and argued in front of everyone). They did not do as well as expected.

Senior year to date (minus one of coaches from last year) much better team and the success that goes with it, Senior leadership all over the place. My son is the definitive team leader but this year, they want to follow. More are leaders so they share the responsibilities. They have a mission to be great. Although coaching is not very good, they do not care. They as seniors have collectively decide to put in the work without coach. I do not know how far they will go in tournament, but it will be farther than they have went in a long time I have no doubts.

He is loving every minute of it. Even when he was slumping early in season, even when he he did not pitch well in a game. He gets how important this is.

He is looking forward to his college experience both in baseball and on campus, but he is holding on ferociously to his HS experience

This is an amazing game. It teaches so much. How to fail and succeed. How working is worth it. How to be a leader and a follower. How great green grass and playing in the dirt is. How to make friends. How to overcome adversity.

He is blessed. I am blessed to be along for his journey.

For those that say enjoy the ride. They are so correct. I have learned to let go of the small stuff, don't fret over the failures, cheer the successes.

Thank you again HSBBW for allowing me to share my journey with my son with all of you and you sharing yours with me.

I relish this game

I am walking in your shoes, Chefmike.  Thanks for saying what I probably couldn't have said as well.  Keewartson has 9 more games, then playoffs.  I learned on this site to 'enjoy the ride' because it will end, for everyone, eventually.   We are also blessed in that son will continue to play 50 miles down the road so we will be able to continue this ride a bit longer.

Thank you for the great reminders about this game and the senior year in particular.  Glad to hear your son is having a great season, even with ups and downs, as he continues to lead and enjoy his team.

It reminded me that our "Senior night" is next week.  80% of the team are seniors so the ceremony is being held after the game instead of before (last year there were 3 and it went pretty quickly) because it may take awhile.  My son is one of four underclassmen, so I'm coordinating the event for his 'mates and their families.  It should be a special night, and we look forward to next years as well, when my son will be playing in his last HS games.  He will greatly miss his senior buddies, that he's been playing with (and behind, they were a couple years ahead of him all throughout little league!) for a long time, through junior high and high school.

Now though it's time to focus on the end of the season and the playoffs!

Thanks again for putting it into perspective.

Right there with ya Keewart. Mine is getting to play 18 miles up the highway from us. Of course being in Ohio, he won't be "home" to play for about a month after season starts next year
