Okay, so here it is late on Thursday and my bags are packed. I'm getting ready to leave on a cruise given to us by our church. The problem--I don't want to go! Confused My son is playing in a tournament this weekend. I've never missed one before. How weird is that? I am not even close to looking forward to this. His last words were "when I hit my homerun, I'll dedicate it to you" (he's only 11). Just curious as to what are some of the things you gave up to watch baseball?

BBFam,
Go for the cruise! Consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Everyone has a baseball player but not everyone can afford to go on a cruise. You probably haven't thought of this but you can support your son during this time. To show your loyalty to your son while on the cruise you should restrict your self to ballpark food......hot dogs, cokes, and nachos. You should also volunteer to work one of the many “concession stands” on the ship. You could also check with the ship’s laundry room and offer to do uniforms at least one time. While the captain will decline you offer, you should still offer to help with the driving. Show ‘em you’re a real baseball Mom!!!

BBFam - I agree completely with Mrs. Fungo! Go on the cruise. I think most of us baseball parents have chosen our son's games (and not regretted it for a minute) over many other events. However, a cruise is a wonderful opportunity and certainly an awesome gift! You must be very deserving of some time away or you wouldn't have received such a nice present. So, go and enjoy that hotdog on the ship! Big Grin
My son's freshman year in high school, I booked a cruise for myself, my son, and my daughter ( my husband couldn't go) with another mom & kids. It was scheduled for our spring break. Baseball comes around and my son comes home and says, "We can't go on the cruise, Coach says if you can't play over spring break, don't bother trying out!" Well, my daughter and I went without him. He was crushed he couldn't go but he ended up making Varsity and they had an out of town tournament over spring break. He had a blast but then I was feeling sick about missing this incredible time for him! Anyway, there will be hopefully lots of games left for your son-esp. if he's only 11. I survived missing my son's 1st Varsity tournament and had a great time on the cruise. I'll admit I was thinking about him alot though!
BBfam,

Have a wonderful time on your cruise, though I agree I would also feel very torn at missing the tourney. But since he's only 11, you will see many, many more games.

My husband just told me a few days ago that we are taking our first cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary (June 2007). I actually started fussing that we'll never be able to afford it since both of our sons will be in college then, but he said we are definitely going anyway!

Well he didn't hit a homerun, but did get a go ahead basehit. He also didn't play too much as he hurt is foot at practice on Friday, so I didn't miss much playing time. Cruise was great but the 9 hour drive home was uncomfortable as my clothes no longer fit me Red Face We will have to try and schedule those trips for Dec. and Jan. next time.
BBfam -

Sorry to hear that your son hurt his foot, but I'm glad that if it did have to happen, that it coincided with your cruise. Sure know what you mean about that clothes problem. I believe that there is something in the environment of a cruise ship that causes your clothes to shrink. Not sure what that is, but I wish they would address the problem... Glad you had a good time, though Eek

Never even mind that it was GIVEN to them....who knows how many tomorrows we have....and something this special...you have to think of the family.....husbands/wives.....not just the baseball playing member of the group.

As much as we may all love our baseball, and watching our sons play.....there are times when we should put others ahead of the game, and the kids.....like a spouse......and this was one of those times. BBfam....you did the right thing and glad you had a good time.
