Funny commercial.

Another funny is Squeezing the Aflac duck

OBTW: For 2008, Samsung makes the best of the large HDTV. Plasma's are out of vogue (yet remain, since costs less, so plasma's will be around awhile)

.....This year, Samsung is outperforming Panasonic Viera & Sony Bravo & Sharp Aquos.....& it's not even close.

Samsung 46 inch 1080p, LCD HDTV LN750 series (with a touch of Red Color). Techno 'refreshed' three months ago, for ~$1,300 (pre-owned incl S&H and set up in family room (& a steal). (Four year old 52 inch plasma 'ghetto' tv (as the poker buddies say, relocated to down-stairs theater!)

My husband gets perk points every year from a company he works for. We had to cash some of them in and after much consideration between Sony, Samsung and the Panasonic Viera plasma we chose the latter. I enjoy it much better than our LCD and so do my kids prefer it over their LCD HD's.
To each their own.
If you have a little space behind the TV, look at the Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP televisions. They are great for sports. No ghosting and excellent colors, definition and constrast. My 5 year old 61" is great. I was looking at a new Samsung 67" and a Mitsubishi 73" last night and they were fantastic. The one drawback is they are a projection set and have a depth of approximately 14-16" but the picture is great and they are they are generally cheaper than LCD or plasma in HD 1080p.

I have read that one company is working on a DLP with a depth of only 6". That would be excellent.
Just had a 52" Samsung LCD delivered a couple days ago. I agree with Bear the plasmas have issues but they do give a great picture.
I research everything I do and the plasma was not the best choice for me. Reseach shows that plasma is subject to burn and is difficult in well ight situations. They have glass screens and are subject to glare.
My last big screen was a 56" lcd by Panasonic and it also was a great TV. I had no problems with it for 10 years.
I got the new tv to hang on the wall. I looked at the 73" but it was too massive for where I wanted the tv. My new Smasung weighs less than 100 lbs and swivels on it base.

I asked several people which they prefered and the new LCDs were the screens of choice. The sales reps from at least 6 stores all had new lcds. The consumer tests all recommended LCDs. The 52" plasma was nearly half the price of the LCD by Samsung.
I have an Interior Designor friend who is fussy like no boby I ever met and he switched to an LCD. He complained about the glare.
One thing that is important is the refresh rate and processor speed and most people don't look at that.
