Nothing ignorant about that question. Yes, reaching base because of an error is counted as an at-bat. If a batter went to the plate four times in a game; hit one single, reached base one time because of an error, hit one home run and struck out one time he would be 2 for 4.

Q: Can anyone list all the ways a batter can reach first base WITHOUT it being considered an "at bat"?
