I had posted the other day that my son was convinced that in their first game, the other team was using an illegal bat. In yesterday's game, the team starts swinging an older Voodoo. Our coach notices, calls time after several hits, and asks the umps about the bat. Ump seems to be clueless as to the rule. So, we happen to have a list (with pictures) of BBCOR and legal waiver bats. The ump insists that the "Demartini" is a legal bat. Finally, we ask the field ump to be involved and he deems the bat illegal. Parents and coaches from the other team are furious.
Is anyone else noticing teams using illegal bats are having umpires not enforce them? And if this old mom can know the rules, why the heck can't the umpires and the other teams? I think this might be a problem all year.
