Hey Guys, its been so long since the last time i was here. If you do remember I was a freshman last year who got cut from the team. I took this very hard, but put that by myself and worked my A** off the offseason.

This off season I went to a Baseball strenght/agility trainer, to get in better shape for the upcomeing season. I actually gained 15-20LBS this off season! I think is is very impressive for my first real offseaon program.

Im also seeing pitching and soon to be hitting instructer to get my mechanics where they should be. ( This is the hardest part I think)

I feel so ready for the season to come. Would you agree?

Last year I was able to throw low 70's, now I should be in the low 80's

By the way im a pitcher if you did not know.

Do you think I should be ready for tryouts this year, and really show why I should have been on the team?

RJM Thanks for the message. See last year I felt like I was just fine, and was 100% going to make the team. Once I was cut I blamed everyone but myself. Now I have come to realize it was me all along, only I can controll what will happen.

This offseason I worked as hard as I have ever at anything in my life with my friend on the varsity team. He has actually taught me so much about what things I should be doing so that only helps the cause.

Once again thank you!

Mains, I don't know you young man but I want to tell you that I am very proud of you. It would have been quite easy to just drop your head last year and throw in the towel after being cut. You didn't. You have worked with the end in mind, and that is, making the team this year. If you have the same coaches, I can guarantee you that they will see a difference in your play.

If for any reason unbeknownst to you that you get cut yet again...DO NOT hang your head when you hear the news. You gave it your all and you have no reason to be ashamed.

It may not mean anything to you now, but with that attitude you just displayed this past year in your training you will go far in life.

I applaud you.
Mains3: keep up the good attitude, that is great. If you are now good enough to make the team, you will make it. It doesn't happen too often that a high school coach singles someone out and will not let them on the team. Those are politics and have no place in baseball. What I mean by that is that it appears (based on your post) that you were probably not quite there last year and were cut, but this year you feel you are going to make the team which is great! You probably will. KEEP IN MIND HOWEVER,,,that incoming players who made the team last year probably have an edge up on you and if this year is a JV attempt, they will keep even fewer players than were on the freshman team, so it may be even harder to make the team. If you are truely hitting low 80's or cracking 80 on a radar gun against a batter (not just throwing bullpen), and have decent control and a plus pitch, I don't see them NOT keeping you. Don't look at it as "cutting" you (if they do). You were not on the team to start with...so what you can do is look at it as trying to crack the lineup and if you don't make it, YOU WERE NOT CUT, you simply were not added to the team and you can try again next year. Sounds like you are a hard worker and I hope things work out for the best! GOOD LUCK!!

Best of luck to you - I will be pulling for you...

As a prep for the tryouts, I suggest reading the following post:

http://hsbaseballweb.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6616002781/...011025902#9011025902

By full uniform, I would suggest a Baseball long sleeve shirt with a T-Shirt over it - preferably something with a number so they can pick you out, baseball pants, belt, baseball socks, Baseball hat (not Joe's Bar and Grill but a real baseball team hat), and both a pair of spikes and a pair of running shoes in case you have to go inside or do running drills on concrete.

It may seem like a little thing but dressing right shows that you understand the requirements of the game - just as dressing wrong (T-Shirt and sweats for example) sends the wrong message.

Go get 'em

When did you start with the pitching instructor? Why haven't you seen the hitting instructor yet? It seems kind of last minute since I'd think your area has or will soon start workouts and tryouts. You seem to have a great attitude and I would hope you'll have a much better shot this year. Good luck!

Coachbwww sorry for such a late reply. If I understood your post right I was about 5'7-5'8 in September and weighed a little under 126lbs. Now im about 5'8-5'9 and a little over 140LBS.SO I gained closer to 15lbs this off season. Something I really needed. In September I was able to throw in the mid 70's, and now I would guess I am able to throw low 80's.

BTW I am 15, turning 16 in several days.( March 5)

size considered, you're hurling the ball fast. keep up the good work and remember, speed isn't everything but it will set-up your off-speed stuff quite well. don't overthrow to get speed...do what's within your arm and your control confidence. That'll do.

What does "Since January" mean......you started on the 1st or 31st? (that's 4 weeks difference) Why didn't you start sooner?

As long as you're doing everything you can within the means available. In my opinion, your baseball specific training is way behind, especially hitting. BUT, Maybe it's tough to do the physical training AND the pitching/hitting, maybe it's tough to pay for lessons, maybe there's no time for them with a heavy courseload, maybe you work after school, etc., etc. Just make sure you're doing everything you can!!!

Again, you seem to have a very good attitude. I hope that translates onto the field!

Hey Breezer, Well I started pitching first week in JAN, and hitting is comeing up. I really should have started sooner, but im paying for these with my own money, I have school, work, workouts... I know I know no Excuses but I really am working hard and am determinded to make the team!

I just wish there was more time in a day!

But really I am doing what I can, I am working out with a friend on the varsity team( Most likely doing more work then alot of other kids in my school who play baseball since they are all involved with basketball) and im learning something everyday.
Thanks! And will keep this in mind.

BTW whats the average speed a kid my age and size throws( I have heard I have a great arm but I want to compare it to the average player( pitcher.)

I hope I qualified my question enough and your response paints the picture clearly...YOU are the one paying for the lessons (good for you!) and you're doing everything you can with the time and money you've got. I'd be VERY proud of you if you were my son!!!

Some parents (like me) cover the cost of the lessons so they can afford to start earlier. You're paying for yours out of your own pocket so it probably makes you work that much harder in the lessons you take.

I said it before, you've got a great attitude and I wish you the best. And I's sure I speak for all of the Moms and Dads on here when I say we're anxiously waiting to hear how it goes.

I'm also sending you a PM to answer another question.
