Imagine throwing 87 at 50.

I am 50 and can throw 87 also. put me at LLWS,Throw 67MPH, simulated to 87. ME and Roger BABY!

I still throw 87 at 60'6"............problem is you have to add up the 2 throws back to the pitcher to get there.......

I throw as hard as I did in college. The ball just arrives later.

That's incredible.... I wonder what persuaded him to do this, especially at this point in time

I'll be impressed when he can throw 50 mph at 87 years old.

My father-in-law hit 75 at 60 at Cooperstown. He got a certificate he's the record holder.

I hit 38 at 30, which is basically the same thing... Or maybe not. I always hated word problems.

If he can throw 90 at age 50, which I think he can, HOF voters may think he's just an incredible athlete, and not some guy who used PED's. (At least I suspect this is HIS thinking.)

Like most independent teams, attendance is key. This is there first year and they've done well keeping attendance up. I think they're trying to gain momentum at the end of the season setting up next year. Not a bad idea.

I imagine the Skeeter's bullpen is well rested and ready for action.

Of course it is a publicity stunt. Skeeters are in last place. If you can't win, you might as well make a few bucks and bring in the crowds.

Independent league teams would have Streakers Night if it drew a crowd and no one got arrested. They can't sell "come see the stars of tomorrow."

When I saw this news, my thoughts ran to Jim Palmer, who tried to mount a comeback after he had already been inducted into the HOF.

The result was an injury and a quick exit.

There's a name for a 50-year-old in a uniform. It's "coach".

On ESPN they brought up that if he came up and threw one inning for the Astros or somebody it would put the HOF clock back 5 more years and he might have an easier time getting in if more time had gone by.

I saw that show, too, and while it was speculation as to his motives, it made a lot of sense. Right now he's on the same ballot with Bonds and Palmeiro. The trifecta could well unleash a torrent of "no" votes on that class every year until none of them are even eligible any more. If he is trying to get out of that group and into a class where he can stand on his own and claim he was exonerated (which I don't believe, but that's what he'll say), I do think his odds go way up.

Things are bad enough in Houston that if he only throws one inning in the last home game of the season, at least it'll sell some tickets for that one game. So even if he gets shelled, I have to agree, this could soon be coming to a TV set near you.

Well, I don't know if I can throw 87 MPH now that I am 50, but I know that when I am 80 years old, I will be able to throw a ball 57 MPH.

(It turns out, that is the terminal velocity of a baseball. All I'd have to do is find a cliff high enough.)

You should've left the explanation off. I would've bit on that one. BTW, I know you can't throw 87mph at 50, but I'm over 87 kph myself at 55.
