My 2011 son just informed me he wants to try out for a DFW independent league team and hopefully play for them while going to school in the offseason. Do MLB teams realistically look at players from these independent teams?

2011 high school or college graduate? Hopefully not HS?
Do these leagues get scouted? Some.
Do many get selected from them? Nope, not very many.
I don't know the exact numbers but I am guessing it is less or close to the same as those drafted and signed as FA's from DIII, which is 30-35 annually.
Daniel Nava is the most recent Independent league selection to have some real nice success...but he led his league in hitting to get a chance.
Farmer Dad - If you played out that scenario and he made the team, how would he handle both the travel and time commitments of pro baseball while going to school?

I know my son's former college baseball schedule (4 games a week usually) and how hard that was...and I know his pro baseball (minor league) schedule and I see it as impossible to mix school in with that.

Long bus rides (overnight). Even when at home, at the ballpark from just after lunch until 11:00 or 12:00 at night...just don't see how to do it.
