Three days before Christmas my 2021 was playing basketball and got hit going for a layup. Ended up tearing his ACL. It took about 2 weeks to get the MRI results back and then 4 weeks of physical therapy before surgery. He had his surgery at the beginning of February and everything went good.

I've been on this forum for about 2 years and I've learned many things including how different high school baseball is depending where you live but the one constant is to slow down and enjoy the ride. I couldn't wait for my youngest to grow up to see how it would turn out. Now I wish I could go back and just enjoy watching him play.  He's always played 3 sports but decided after playing jv soccer this past fall to only play basketball and baseball. Now since getting hurt he's only going to play baseball which is his first love. It will be strange not seeing him play basketball again. I think I enjoyed watching him play basketball more than baseball because their were no expectations of him moving on to play basketball.

The goods news, surgery went great as I mentioned earlier. No other damage except for the ACL. Physical therapy has also been going great. He is taking it slow and just doing what the doctors and physical therapist tell him. His baseball team has been the best through all of this. I couldn't imagine a better baseball program in New England and he's lucky to be with them. Whether he plays baseball this fall or next spring I'm sure I will be nervous watching him play but I will just try to enjoy the moment.

After playing JV basketball for one year, my son moved over to a rec league team while keeping baseball focused.  It was a much more relaxed level of play (although they did play hard), but the best was the additional time he had to do baseball specific workouts during the regular HS basketball season.  There were no practices...just 2 or so games a week.

Good luck with the recovery process!  My son had hip surgeries this past summer, and it was a huge relief to see him back in the swing of things (pun intended) this spring.

...my 2018 was pitching in the very first scrimmage of the year (and his career) when a laser came back at him and hit the top of his pitching hand (coming back through his follow through) and broke the 4th metecarpal.  he is out 6 weeks not including the time to get his grip strength back, timing etc...its only been a week so far, but seems like a whole lot longer.  Yesterday he started some tubing work for arm and shoulder, so the recovery won't be too long, but still not watching him play after the non-stop work he put in this winter has sucked big time.  Injuries blow...
