How Not to Ruin a Swimming Prodigy

Few cool things to note -- parents didn't feel need to pack up and move in order for her to get "elite" training, coach does what he can to avoid burning out his kids. His club doesn't even have its own pool and yet the star swimmer will be competing soon in London.

Swimming at the highest level is an incredible grind. I was a borderline Age Group swimmer until I was 12 when I couldn't take getting up at 5AM and swimming 3 or 4 miles before school and doing it again in the afternoon. Spend three hours a day with the water swooshing past your ears with only your own thoughts and the coaches whistle and you can lose your mind. Brutal sport to be good at but man you get into unbelieveable shape.
