I was recently asked by my AAU coach to play on a 15u invite only AAU team. It starts after the varsity season ends. I would do it instead of American Legion, What do you guys think, is it worth it?
i say the better the competition the better.... in my opinion, i would rather have a kid playing against top level competition than american legion.. we all played it and it will always be a summer fixture.. but no one i know ever attends legion games looking at players
Just because its an invite only team, it doesn't mean its a good team. Weigh the pros and cons. Which team will you get more playing time? Does either of the teams have coaches with sons on the team? How many games does each team play? Level of competion? etc.
Personally, I would see if I could play both teams.
I encourage players to play up in age level as much as they're able to handle the tougher competition. I believe you get bette in part by playing against the toughest competition you can face, so unless you're younger than 15, I'd suggest you try to find an older team that will consider you, if you can handle that extra level of competition.
I live in a town in which there are no higher level teams and none of the surrounding teams want out of town kids, so I figured I would play on this team and I have played against some of the kids that will be on my team and they are all pretty decent. I dont think the American Legion team that my town has set up is going to be developed enough to be good, and half of my current varsity team doesn't care about baseball. Thanks for the advice.
