I don't think it's a rule in UIL...a decision of the coach or district to carry seniors on JV.
That's OK, if it doesn't speak a negative "judgement" on the player...perhaps there are circumstances that prevent the player from being Varsity.
Then again, coaches often carry kids on Varsity that really are JV material, but he needs to fill a roster.
two things come to mind for me on this topic

01-- why would a senior want to be playing with 14 and 15 year old/ Part of the game in HS is the social aspect and there will be no social aspect with this age difference

02--JV, at least in my eyes is for training the younger players , the farm system for the varsity if you will---putting a senior there destroys this concept

Cracker Jack the answer to your question is "Yes". In the UIL General Regulations, page 45 the manual states the following:

What constitutes eligibility for a junior varsity student?

Answer: The student must be in compliance with Texas Education Agency no pass-no play requirements, must be enrolled as a full-time student in the school that he/she represents, and must be in compliance with the Amateur Rule.
TRhit, I totally agree with your two points. I don't know of any senior who would want to play on the JV. I was just trying to find out if there was a rule out there that did not allow seniors to play on JV.

From a social stanpoint it would hurt because he's not playing with his senior buddies, plus the fact that he would probably be ridden hard by his peers if he did play JV.

And why would a coach want to play a Sr on JV if it takes away playing time from younger players who need to be developed for varsity action down the road?
Cracker jack I have a question. Is the player recovering from an injury? If that is the case I see it no different than when a player is sent down to the minor leagues to rehab. The player may need more playing time with the anticipatuion of helping the team later. Maybe you know all the facts and of course we don't. If the player and parents are happy with the decision, whats the big deal?

Toatally agree! Ask the kid if he wants to be a manager, or chart pitches or something so that he can be involved.
I would like to get some opinions and input on this:

Is it better for a HS sophomore to play JV and play all games and get more at bats or should they move to Varsity and sit most games but get to work with the Varsity in practice.

I think it would be much better to play JV. I think anytime on the bench is wasted time. But others have disagreed with me. What do y'all think?
