Is it an error or a base on balls??

The burning question...
Count is 3 and 2. Batter hits a pop fly foul about one foot off of first base. The first baseman sets up for the catch, ball hits the mitt and drops to the ground.
Next pitch is a ball and the batter takes the base.
In the official stats we track base on errors. As such, would this be a base on balls or would it be a base on error?

F3 gets an error because he prolonged the at bat. Batter is not charged with a time at bat. Ball four gives batter a base on balls.

There can be no base on an error, because the error didn't allow the batter to reach base, the walk did.

The key to this has an effect on the pitchers ERA. When the inning is reconstructed and the prolonging of the batter and thus the inning, runs scored would be unearned runs.

Take the above example, if the drop foul ball was the 3rd out, and the next batter hit a home run all three runs would be unearned.

Thank you for the replies. They confirmed my thoughts, I just needed a second opinion. Ironically, it would have been the third out and the runs subsequently scored were booked as unearned.
