bbscout, that's a good picture.
I to was told that you line up your middle knuckle's.
Are at least between the middle to the big one's.
But I see in the picture, that he line's up the middle knuckle's just on the upside of the big knuckle's??
If your big knuckle's are lined up, you get sort of a binding effect on your wrist's
I think that as long as you don't wrap your knuckle's around to far, it's OK?
EH
The standard grip is knuckles lined up (1), modified (2) is inbetween and choke (3) is the picture you see above. However, some players are between the three. Top hand deep, bottom hand in the fingers. Or, top hand in the fingers, bottom hand deep, etc. It seems there are a lot of combinations and no one way. In general, the power guys are in the 2 (modified) or 3 (choke) slot. The slap guys seem to be more in the 1 slot (knuckles lined up).

I prefer the two slot, seems more comfortable to most. The one slot seems to be forced by a lot of instructors.

If this is true, then why don't the best hitters in the world do it?

Also, why and when do you think you should roll the wrists over?
The bottom hand thumb( wrist) bends to the lead elbow ; the top hand knuckles( wrist) bend to the rear elbow.

Those angles are more important than just looking at knuckles.

When you do the above the top hand" knocking" knuckles line up with the wedding band.

Aaron does it slightly different and he had a good career

If your players are not married you will have to coach an older team to get this right

Jerry You're not kidding! Couldn't hit it too far at all just off the trademark or at the end of the barrel! Bet he would have been more careful in that illustration of the fat part/desired hitting area if he knew that we would be looking at it 44 years later!Big Grin

Very observant PG Jerry. Wonder how many others noticed that the fingers were spread wider than they should've been in illustration number one? To be completely honest Jerry, I was so focused on the excellent grip illustrations, I missed it!

Have a good Super Bowl Sunday everyone. peace shep
Shepster and PGStaff,

With respect to Stan, he appears to have a game grip like he describes in the training photos. (I reviewed some clips.) What one has to watch out for is PRO's who say to do it one way and actually do it an entirely different way in game situations.

In example, Don Mattingly has a line of bats (v-grip) that he is selling. The intent of the odd handle cross-section / shape is to force the hitter to use a door-knocker line-up. He even put out a clip discussing the virtues of the grip on the site that he uses to promote the bats. Went back and looked at a few of his game clips to see if he used this grip. Image that, he didn't.

Along the same line, he talked about some other aspects of hitting mechanics in the video that were questionable and that he did not use in his game swings.

Action-perception gap at its best Confused
its better to have ur knoking knuckles lined up because if u look at ur point of contact they are lined up then so if u have the top set of knuckles lined up with ur knocking knuckles the top hand will end up having to turn when u swing to whear that will just decrease bat speed and power, so its better to start ur knocking knuckles lined up
