Is it normal?

No, that is not my experience.  My son's team stopped taking fees and holding practices at the end of January when HS season got going, and resumed in June.  If you aren't going to be practicing or playing you shouldn't be paying.

I only know about two teams - both divided the season fee into installments so parents could spread the cost over multiple months. In this scenario, you could be paying during months you weren't playing.

Does your dues include use of facility? If not maybe you are part of payment plan?

Son’s team started collecting in March and the summer will be paid for in June. They do it this way because in the past parents wouldn’t pay and disappear for the last tournament. But with his dues they also get to use arguably one of the best facilities around.

I know of academy teams who charge year round. It gives the players access to the facility to hit or throw and some instruction.

My team does not give access to any facility or instruction during the season.

The place I’m thinking of charged year round. The travel team cost extra. It’s in NJ. My son was recruited. But it was on the wrong side of the river/city for accessibility. We lived on the PA side.

Some places will let you break down the entire balance and pay it monthly over a year from what I've understood.

With other teams, this is the case. It’s not specifically mentioned for my current team.

We have an annual amount that is due.  The early payments are just there in case the player wants to bail.  If they don't make the HS team or are injured, they can get a refund.
