I've heard that any S** 24 hours before a game was not a good idea, that it decreases performance levels for the athlete. I read an article on this once and some athletes said that it actually helped to relax them when preparing for a game and that they performed better.

I believe the biological S** clock does kick in during the high school years and does increase emotions, adrenaline and thought processes.

Is there a way to channel this rush into performance?

Does activity during the 24 hour time frame have a negative effect at game time?

Is high school a time to prepare your athlete about these issues?

To understand the workings of a curve ball, you need to understand the principle of rotating bodies in a "Fluid Medium" (aka the Mangus effect). So pitching IS another form of Fluid Management. Hmmmm. This requires further thought ... there may be some significance, but, for the life of me, I can see what it would be.....Big Grin Big Grin
Since no one seems to have openly touched on this for the high school athlete, I searched the web. There seems to be nothing about high school but I did find a very interesting article on older athletes. It seems there is a negative effect.

Just so happens some one did a paper on this subject and used college age baseball team for the study.

The findings:

1) The activity does not hurt performance on the baseball field, provided you get enough sleep and are not physically exhausted

2) Ball players lacking in this activity had much higher stress than other ball players plus did more unhealthy behavior like drinking, violence, chewing dip and bathed less and had poorer dental care. (which might explain why the female race avoided them.)
duel
3) Ball players tend to greatly teased other players ALOT about their lack of success "With the Ladies" tater

4) One player whose GF of 6 years was shutting him out until he gave her a engagement ring. Fastball was greatly increased during this study. Likley rechanneling his frustration elsewhere.
But his healthy suffered from increase tobacco use, drinking and driving the wrong way down one way street in his pick up truck
