This is a topic of discussion in our household so I thought I'd share it with you all. Our son has many opportunities facing him as a rising junior as we are fortunate enough to be in year round weather. His highly regarded pitching coach (also a scout) says to not attend the showcases and to keep getting stronger and better. He just got clocked at 90 and hits .480. He's 6'3 and just turned 16. His high school coach says the same thing and he's been on varsity since he was a freshman. His summer team travels and does tons of high profile tournaments and showcases. We need the audiences input as to the pros and cons. We just want him to have fun and develop.

I agree, let him continue to develop and grow. If you have a Pitching Instructor that has MLB affiliations and you trust him, I would likely follow his advice closely. Play summer ball with a quality program that hits the big tournaments on the east coast such as the WWBA series and Jupiter Florida. Maybe attend a PG showcase to get on the national radar. Your guy is still young and blessed with size and at least a couple highly sought after tools.

Welcome aboard, and best of luck to your son.
Diamond_mom, I agree with your scout. Put your money in college fund. Very few players ever get a full ride. My son tried out and made some high profile events and his summer team traveled to East Cobb and Jupiter. It did not help him what so ever. It already sounds like your son is getting enough on his summer team. He just needs to bear down on grades and work out.
