This is a player that supposedly just committed to Duke as per PG website. I'm just wondering. If you read his profile, he's a 17 yr, 11 month old 2019 with a 4.5 gpa and a 2400 SAT who is a BHP. There is no fb velo for him, though he did do a PG showcase in 2015 where he received a "7." He list his school as "Weed." He apparently hails from "Santo Domingo, ST DOM," and his summer and fall teams are listed as "Fettucine Cream" and "Buttered Baguettes." Anyone ever hear of this guy?

He is from NY. Why would you call this player out and post his name?

Thats not what we do here on the HSBBW.

Because the profile has some weird info and who is "calling him out?" If it's real, then he's extremely impressive. I just wanted to know if anyone had heard of him. If he is real and listed those teams as his summer and fall teams the kid has a sense of humor and would probably enjoy that someone noticed.

You note that he is from NY. Does this mean you've heard of him? Or are you simply going by the fact that he apparently played a couple of tournaments where he was listed as playing for the NY Gothams?

I think it is a real kid and some kid hacked his profile.  Scroll down on his events.  The giveaway is the hacker spelled fettuccine wrong.

Yeah, I did. I just wondered because it doesn't appear he pitched at any of these events and yet he's listed on the recent commits as a BHP. That's what drew my attention. I also often wonder if PG doesn't put in a profile here are there as a trap to see if anyone improperly uses their information for commercial reasons. That would be a fairly common and legit business practice.

Strangely, there is a Weed High School in Weed, CA that went 0-19 last season.

Let me ask you a question. How would you feel if someone posted a link to your son on a high profile website and asked is this a joke?

Just sayin....

If his info was listed as in this profile (mainly the summer teams and the listing of an 18yo as a 2019 with a 2400 SAT), I would probably laugh. Now, if someone hacked his account and reported him as a commit somewhere that he wasn't committed, then I would be upset. But not at the person who brought it up here. Now, if this were a normal profile and I asked if it were a joke, then that would be a different story. There is info here that screams "prank."

Again, though, my question wasn't rhetorical. Have you heard of this kid? When you say he is from NY, is that because you know of him?

As far as putting in info to trap anyone, why would they?

Companies do this all the time, mainly to see if anyone is stealing client lists, inside info, etc. In this case, If it were a plant and some other organization suddenly listed their top 2019 recruits and had this kid listed somewhere then PG would know this organization simply copied their work.

No I am going by the info provided, but why not ask the source?

Tjen you will have your answer.

I'll give you an example of a case I'm working on right now. This particular company puts out a directory of contacts in a business where finding contact info can be difficult, They sell the directories at a pretty high price. There is a competitor that beat them to the market with a listing two years in a row. They suspected one of their sales people of selling the list. So, they gave all four of their salesmen the list of clients for this year. However, on each one were names of fictional clients. Each list had different fictional clients. Lo and behold, the competitor beat them to publication again and one of those fake clients was in the directory. it was simply a matter of which list he was on to figure out which guy was selling inside info.

I just ask because the info doesn't say he's from NY so I thought maybe you knew something.

The more I look around the more I agree with GO44DAD that he has a friend that's screwing around with him. There is a youtube video of a 2017 OF'er wearing a Gotham Jersey, so the kid is real but probably the rest is one of his friends playing a joke on him. Probably a friend that doesn't realize that some of this (especially if he really isn't committed to Duke) could be harmful. Not to mention someone with his sign in info could change his contact info as a "joke" and hamper legitimate recruiting for him. However, if he actually is a Duke commit, then he could probably care less at this point.

No. I removed the last three words and apologize. The comment was uncalled for.

To be honest, I have had worse things said. I was just pointing out that its not me who needs to get a life. I accept the apology.

I have more concerns about the title of this topic and the posting of the player. Not about me.  I will contact PG to see what the story is on this player.

This brings up a question. Setting aside the title, is it a breach of etiquette to post a player's profile, ask particular questions about a particular program, or to evaluate what's in the profile? My thoughts are that if a kid uses PG for their recruiting purposes, has a public profile up, and actively seeks out feedback from PG, PBR, or some like organization, they must know that info is available publicly to anyone who wants to view it. I would also assume PG's website traffic is considerably higher than this one. Outside of rudeness or unconstructive negativity, it's fair game. The PG website has to be meant for the public and not only recruiters and scouts, otherwise the info would be protected.

Having said that, I can see where my choice of title could be construed to think I meant was the player a joke when I meant was the profile a joke. In my own defense, though, I think it's clear the profile was indeed a joke by someone, whether it be the player or just a friend pranking him.

Just spoke to PG, player is legit and the events attended and stats os as well as only PG can access that.

PG doesnt "plant" fake stories, as this person told me.

Access to site has only been player and dad. So no one hacked the info. More than likely a walk on.

And while they felt some comments were probably made in jest, the player isnt a joke.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Ha, summer team already removed?

I would say it's a viral marketing campaign. See, after posting ridiculous stats, someone find it and started searching for the kid; hopefully not only root, but also college coaches. Now the coaches are sending it to their colleagues and associates for fun, but in fact helping the kid get his name out. He'll probably correct the info in a few days, now people who's sending the link around will see his real stats. Clever.

It's Russian information operations doctrine in reverse.

Well, I had assumed any "hack" was from a friend and not a disinterested party. So, it would have been done from the dad or player's account. Pretty much all the info seems to have been changed and looks more like the work of a kid than a dad or even someone who would score 2400 on the SAT. It would also seem that some of the info is inside jokes. These can hurt in recruiting. My son has been asked a couple of times about his Twitter account because, before he changed it, his handle included "bong," and included sayings like "see the bong, be the bong." Although he dumped the account over two years ago, it still shows up on searches of his name. The actual origin is quite innocent.

His last name being Chandler, when we moved here, kids started calling him Chandler Bing which morphed to Chandler Bining to "Chandler Banong" and eventually to just "Bong." I was referred to as "Coach Bong" and my wife as "Mama Bong." When a kid on the team went to the mound, the saying became, Hey, Tanner, you're on the mound today, "See the bong, be the bong." Just a silly thing, but you can see how this looks to a recruiter when someone on facebook refers to him by his nickname "Bong." It's been a battle trying to get his friends to stop calling him that. So, something like changing his high school to "Weed," might seem innocent enough, but...
