First PG is hacked, and now the entire Internet is down. Coincidence? I think not.
TPM posted:Once again, PG will be verifying info.
Most people dont fake grades or scores.
Yeah, that would be quite counterproductive for any kid who claimed a 4.0 only to have the coach see a 2.9 on his transcript. Obviously PG doesn't have the resources to verify the information on every profile entered so, in no way is this on them. They sort of have to rely in the honesty of participants. Same with the commitment list. There's no way they can verify every commitment submitted to them. They have to rely on the honor system. Strangely, for the most part that works.
I think those weight and height were from 3 years ago. So is the pic.
Maybe some of you will understand why you dont post players info.

However, his youtube recruiting video dated June of 2016 shows him as a 2017 outfielder and the kid in the video is nowhere near 6'3" / 200 lbs. No doubt someone - probably a buddy - is screwing with him. Maybe by bringing it out in the open, he'll become aware of the problem, fix it, and everything will work out for him, making me the hero of the story. Yeah that's the ticket. See how I spin that?
If true, I'm most intrigued by the BHP. That's the whole reason I even looked at his profile. At the PG Underclass A/A games I got to witness a kid throwing 88 as a RHP and 80 s a LHP. That kind of thing blows my mind.
I'm no P.I., but a quick look at the roster submitted from the last event attended in July 2016, would reveal he is likely 5'-10' 160.
The video shows he's short and slight. It also shows he doesn't have D1 skills.
Here's my question. Is PG doing 40yd times now instead of 60? This profile shows he ran a 5.3 40.
RJM posted:The video shows he's short and slight. It also shows he doesn't have D1 skills.
So the information listed in the profile might be a "joke"?
Skillshow video for the profile clearly states 40, which is a football standard. Pretty common for indoor events that take place in winter.
Hardly a measurement for bb, the 60 is the equivalent of HP to 2nd.

It would be true if only HP to 2nd is on a straight line ...

I don't disagree with you..............however, the baseball industry has adopted it a such.
Why is this important to anyone? Even if he did fake anything not my problem to worry about nor will that give or take anything away from my kid.

So it is not ok to post a kids profile on here, but it is ok to comment on their skill level?

First, I sincerely doubt the kid did this himself. Most likely it was a friend who got ahold of his account. Second, not everything discussed has to be "important." Occasionally, we can discuss things that are merely "interesting." My interest was to know if this was real - if anyone knew anything about this apparent 18yo 2019 with a 4.5 gpa and a 2400 SAT who is an ambidextrous pitcher committed to Duke and plays for travel teams with names like Buttered Baguette. My interest was piqued.
I'm in Jupiter so haven't checked HSBBW today, until now. Not sure what is going on, but every once in awhile these things happen. Once a players brother went in and and edited his brothers profile. In that case he was just playing a joke and it was corrected.
Certain parts of a players profile can be updated by the player. Other parts are certified, such as running times, velocity, etc., and can't be changed.
Anyway, we will have our people look into it.
So, a show of hands here, because maybe I'm off in left field. Other than TPM (I already know her opinion), does the subject of this post seem inappropriate? Does it reflect badly on me in a way that should have me consider asking it be removed? Obviously, I don't feel that anything I wrote was negative towards the young man, but I've been wrong before...once...a long time ago.
By the way, many people have simply PM'ed me with their opinion, which is probably best. No need to start anything on here. I simply wonder if I'm quite as bad for this community as has been suggested.

Why do you need approval? If you think posting info on amatuer HS players is ok, go for it.
Just take it to another site.
Regardless of whether this info is true or not, whats the point? Why not worry about your own player?

Yup. You had to ask an opinion of all to start something I guess.
I really dont care, really. And its not about being bad for the community, its about remembering these are kids, they are not professionals.
Again, what you should have done was contact PG and brought it to their attention.

TPM, let it go. I understand your position and I don't agree. First, I said nothing negative about the kid, nor did I "call him out." I simply noted something interesting. Second, let's explore the nature of recruiting sites like PG and PBR as well as this site. Players involve themselves with those organizations knowing they are exposing themselves to the public. Further, many, like Ko, put recruiting videos on youtube. Now, ask yourself, why do recruiting sites post the profiles publicly where we all have access to them? It can't be that these organizations are solely for exposure to recruiters and scouts. If that were the case, it would be easy enough to limit access to a profile to a player and recruiters and scouts. However, that's not what these sites are for. They are, beyond the above, basically news sites for those interested in recruiting - the same community that comes to this board.
I don't think it's a surprise to a player who joins a travel team, enters showcases, and posts videos meant to demonstrate his skills, that the critique he paid to have put on a public site might actually be discussed by others. Now, do I think it appropriate to ridicule or berate a player? No. However, I think it's certainly fair game to discuss his profile, what he chooses to put on it, (or here, discussing an obvious hack) or to compare players.
Now, I asked TPM to stop sending me personal messages, but she won't. I don't want to block her, because I very much values reading a lot of what she has to say. I do, however get a little tired of sifting through the I-know-better-than-you posts to find the pearls of wisdom. However, since she has indicated to me that she has taken it upon herself to - as she puts it to me - "preserve the integrity of the site," I felt compelled to ask if there is something I'm missing. I did not see the post as negative, nor did I feel that I was attacking the integrity of the site or stepping over the line.
Wait a minute, you just implied anything goes on an internet site but you dont want a critique in a pm?
And preserving the integrity means not turning it into a recruiting critique site.
Why dont you ask for a new forum to be opened so you can critique away. Wouldnt that make sense?
But I will bet you wont get too many replying because that makes it fair game for everyone.
Sigh.
Yup sigh. The only person I want critiquing my player is a bona fide scout, college coach or companies like PG, unless I post something and ask for advice.
Thats how it usually works. But maybe I didnt realize you are now a scout?
People please. I have and continue to value what each both of you bring to the table. In my opinion Root started off with a legitimate question on a clearly "unique" PG page. As TPM pointed out, such a post can lead to areas probably unsuitable. Root apologized for a somewhat inarticulate title. Then........it has somehow degenerated into a boxing match as to who is more correct. You are both too knowledgeable and full of useful information to go down that path. Let's move on. Neither of you are going to change the other's opinion and I don't want to see either of you no longer contribute.
I'll move on.

I appreciate what you have said. Yes he apologized, but I sent a pm to move it off the board, which wasnt nasty at all, and he moved it to the board.
You play nice, you get nice. You dont, you get it back.
While I don't think it's a good idea to analyze and discuss an individual on a website without their asking for input, PG profiles are public and those who have a profile there should not expect a great deal of privacy. And this "kid" is 18, so he is an adult.
Bottom line, I don't think this topic - discussion of an unusual profile - is all that far out of line. In fact, PGStaff hisself has posted profiles of players to show as an example of a point he is making. When someone has something on a public site, it is fair game. We just need to be judicious with our scrutiny as fair, reasonable human beings.
If the kid sees the thread I'll bet his reaction would be, cool I'm being discussed on a baseball board. Chances are the kid knows where he fits in the game.
The profiles are there for the public because they can create opportunity for players. Those opportunities extend beyond college recruiting and the draft.
We have seen young players get great opportunities to play on top travel teams because the top travel programs also recruit. Plus you never know when someone important might get interested. Truth is, when it comes to baseball nearly everyone can recognize talent. Lots of people are interested but don't want to pay for a subscription. So we get releases and post their profile for the public to see. Not a lot different than starting their own website profile, except the measurables are considered more reliable.

You are 100% fine. One reason I will not showcase my son is so he DOESN'T have all his info out there. Once it's out there, it's, well, OUT THERE! Kind of fair game. Now I agree it would be distasteful to pick a profile and rip on the kid. That is not what you did here. you are fine. But root you better think twice about if you really want 'old timer' status. Lol.
Ditto to what 2020 just said for sure! Like I said in previous posts, I had same thought as root when I read the profile. Don't think there was any malicious intent!
Nothing mandatory about having a players information out there. We have many who have attended showcases that don't have their profile posted.
Also as soon as someone notifies us they want something deleted from the site, it gets deleted. The profiles are there for the player, not for PG.

Just to be clear I never stated in my first response it was malicious. Not until the attorney went in to a briefing about a case he was working on to make me think it might be a plant did I get upset. Bad argument. We arent idiots here.
And as you see, quite a few chimed in with comments, good or bad, that is my point why we dont do that here.
I think PG said it best, they exist to help others to create opportunities. How is posting and discussing a player going to create an opportunity here. There is an unsigned senior topic here, go for it.
Implying that once information is made public its fair game to discuss, I dont buy into that for this site, unless its brought here by the player or parent.

And PG to be fair if my son had numbers we wanted to scream from the nearest mountain top we would certainly showcase. I would love to have my sons profile out there stating he is 15u throwing 87. Problem is he ain't. There is no clock on this. If and when the time is right for him to showcase he will. And we will be proud to have his profile up.
2020DAD,
I understand. One thing is he should be playing against the best possible competition. That has been proven to help.
It doesn't need to be our events. Just that the better the competition, the better they all get.
