allowed? What, did Brooks have a little note from Earl Weaver that he handed the ump to give to the scorekeeper, or was it more like a pocketful of get out of errors free, cards? Big Grin

I'm sure the kid will be all right. His errors let in two unearned runs, and later in the game he hit a 2 RBI double to bring his team within one run. Miami won it in the bottom of the ninth.

Miami is ranked #6, so this kid is obviously a great player.

I was just curious about the statistical side of it. Four errors by one player in one inning is so unusual that I had to wonder.

Two of them came on one play, where apparently (I was "watching" on gametracker) he bobbled the ball, causing the batter to reach first, then threw it wildly, so runner went to second. So that isn't much different than just making a single throwing error which allows the batter/runner to reach second. But they scored it as two errors.

Anyway, my intent certainly wasn't to bring any scorn down on this kid or to suggest anything about his ability - he is the starting 3rd baseman for Miami, for God's sake!

I just thought it was such an outlier that I wondered if it was an all-time record for errors in an inning.

Brooks had a get out of jail free card. It came in the mail with his get into hall of fame free card.
