Ok heres thie situation:

Im playing center with a runner on 2nd and ball was hit to me. I throw home with a strong throw to keep the runner at third. Next batter gets a double so the run scores. Next batter hits one to me, and i over run it, but because of the strong throw two batters ago (not bragging, but i made a pretty decent throw) the runner that was on second went to third and stopped. So i jog in a little bit, because i didn't want to throw the ball away because i was upset for over running it, and the pitcher YELLS at me to throw it in. Something along the line of "Jesus Christ! Throw the ball in". I know i waited a little bit but where were the runners gonna go? If either of them went they were done. Then in the dugout he sais something a long the lines of "Why'd don't you play in so you don't let tose bloopers drop, no ones hit me hard all night" (Gives up a home run next inning). In my opinion i should not be told by the pitcher how to play my position and a player should NEVER criticize another player out loud on the field. Is this correct? I was going to say something to him but i didn't want to start a controversy among the team.

Am i correct that it is wrong for a pitcher to do? Myself as a pitche know i would NEVER do something like that but maybe thats just me.

Thanks in Advance

From your description you did the right thing. You're correct in not causing a scene in the dugout, and further, the coach more than likely saw what was going on. I know that I usually remember which kids need an attitude adjustment, as I'll bet most coaches do. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, but somewhere down the road that pitcher's selfish attitude will catch up to him.
plp556: Perhaps your pitcher was verbalizing his frustration at letting up a hit more than he wae criticizing you. It's obvious that you know what you're doing and you're a decent player. You shared with us that you also pitch and because you have the insight of an outfielder you would not criticize an outfielder while you are pitching. You know both positions and you are wise not to criticize others, unlike your pitcher in your recent game. Does this pitcher also play other positions, especially the outfield? If he is only a pitcher does he defend the position well? The intent of my questions are for you to assess the pitchers capabilities. If the answer is no to both questions then consider the source and do your best as you did in the game. If the answer is yes to each question then maybe there is something he can personally teach you from him playing that position. Either way he was out of line in the way he yelled out to you. One thing is clear from his comments...he thinks you're Jesus Christ!
