Here is the situation:

Doubleheader, 2 - 7 inning games
Game 1: Pitcher starts to get in trouble, coach has son go warm up to go in in relief. Pitcher gets out of inning, son sits. This happens 3 times in the first game.

Game 2: Different starting pitcher, same scenario. Son is told in 3 separate innings to warm up to go in.

By the time my son actually goes in, he has thrown well over 100 pitches in the bullpen and has had his arm cool down six times.

This seems like very poor game management to me. But I would be interested in other/more experienced takes on this scenario.

BTW- son did not pitch very well. Came out the same inning after giving up 4 runs.

All I have is advice. Instead of warming up over and over again in the bullpen just warm up once or twice and keep a coat on to keep the shoulder warm and toss a bit inbetween each inning. That way he's not actually throwing pitches but keeping his arm warm. Can't forget that he will get a bit of time to do the rest of his warming up pitch wise when he is put in there.
Well, there is a pretty big difference between warming up, and throwing close to game percent, and tossing to stay loose.
The 1st time your son went to warm up in each of the two games, he probably shouldve started slow, and then got close to game intensity.
The 2nd time warming up, he shouldn't have had to throw game intensity, an inning of sitting [with a jacket], in my opinion doesn't need to have another game intensity warm up.
Also, when a pitcher enters a game from the pen, they have 5-10 warm up pitches from the game mound as well.

Pretty much what Bulldogs said, there shouldn't be a need to throw 6 times in a day, to stay warm...
It happened to my brother. He is SS/P, so one game he was going to be a releif pitcher and the coach had him warm up a bunch of times, so he was tired going in, and he gave up 2 hits in 1st two batters, then got hit in his pithcing arm by a liner right back to him, he was ok, but he pluncked the next two batters so he was pulled.
