There was a news report today that said that the NCAA has sent a letter to the city of Omaha requesting that they start to limit the number of beer gardens around Rosenblatt stadium. They also want to setup a safe zone around the stadium where alcohol, unapproved advertising and unlicensed goods will not be allowed. Between this and the news that the Dingerville RV park is being taken over by corporate tents, I wonder if the fan friendly atmosphere of the CWS may start te be a thing of the past.

I for one won't miss the alchol (and the public intoxication, public urination and fighting that it comes with), but I hope that the NCAA and the city of Omaha don't start to alienate the fans that have loved and supported the CWS for so long.

Any thoughts?

I think it may have something to do with where the event is held. I know that at Creighton basketball games they serve alcohol, but those games are played at the Qwest center and not on cmapus. I also know that when Nebraska and Creighton play baseball at Rosenblatt during the regular season they do serve alcohol.

My big concern isn't the booze, it is the fact that people come to Omaha during the CWS for the entire experience, not just the games. I have had more fun hanging out and interacting with people from all over the US at the RV's in Dingerville than I have in the ballpark. I have always loved how there is a large group of LSU fans (among other schools) that come for the week even when their team doesn't make it. I just hope the expereince isn't diluted to the point that people fibd excuses not to make the trip.
Across the street and up and down the road from Rosenblatt are "temp" beer "gardens" which actually are set up behind homes on the street. The parking lot is packed with tailgaters from sun up to sun down.
As far as unlicensed merchandise, the schools sends out reps to search, I know that some unlicensed merchandise from Clemson was pulled by mid week.
The CWS is no different than any other sporting event.

I did not notice if there was beer sold in the stadium. I did not notice any drunken fans.

At the ACC tourney, beer and liquor is served but you must sit in a seperate section.

Beer is sold at many college sporting events, I think it just depends upon what the school allows and where the school is located.
