In case anyone was living under a rock and missed this, we had a fun time in Iowa City Thursday. Well, technically, I wasn't there, but enjoyed it anyway.
We planned to watch Iowa take on the Hoosiers from home since we had work responsibilities and son likely wouldn't be pitching until Friday or Saturday, but we watched on Big10 Plus.
By the end of the first, I went for a walk — our ace had given up two home runs for four runs in the first inning. It seemed like a lost cause. After the third, we were down 13-2.
Then Kyle Huckstorf hit a home run — 3 RBI. We bat around, he did it again. In the fifth, he did it again, except this time a grand slam. He ended up with a Big10 record 12 RBI in the game.
Somewhere in all the mess (the fourth inning??), my son comes in to pitch. The announcer — desperate for conversation — gives a chat about how my son has always seemed like an angry person, but he's gotten to know him and "he's really a fun guy."
What????
He gave up two runs, but finished the game and earned the win as Iowa cruised to a 30-16 win.
Tonight, our starter carried a no-hitter into the sixth as we got a fairly normal 12-0 win. Met the announcer who seemed a little embarrassed, but seems like a really nice guy who maybe needed to swap out "angry" for "intense."
Isn't college baseball fun??? Tomorrow is senior day and all the kids will share one cap and gown for photos (graduation was last week). Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
